  1. Yeah it is.

  2. I always go back to the example of James "BoneCrusher" Smith.  He first put on a pair of gloves at age TWENTY-SIX!!!  He was a prison guard, who had been told for years that he should try to box, and finally he gave in and tried it.  Well, a few short years later, he was WBA Heavyweight Champion by KO!!!  He also fought Mike Tyson to the entire twelve rounds in their title fight, and fought Larry Holmes in a real smackdown, dragout fight.

No, you're not too late. . . but BoneCrusher was the exception to the rule, obviously.  You can do it, but to compete on the big stage, you've got to make it your life.

Hope your bills are in order, sir.  Because. . . . at five foot eleven, you're about a foot and a half shorter than Valuev.  Now, if you were five eleven and 175 lbs. . . I'd have higher hopes.  But honestly, at the end of the day, it's not about what the smart mouths (myself included) tell you.  It's about whether or not you're able to devote some REAL time to this goal of yours.  Get into a gym, shave that 235 to about 210 or 215, get some serious CARDIO going (like running or eliptical machine) and take classes from anyone willing to teach you.

Boxing is an art, that happens to be scored like a sport.  Big, strong guys fail at this art EVERY DAY because they treat it too much like a sport.  Be smarter. . . .carry this knowledge into the ring with you, and you'll come out on top.

Best of luck to you, and keep those HANDS up!

  3. Not as long as you have access to a meat locker, drink lots of raw eggs, get a grey sweatsuit, and listen to Eye of the Tiger when you work out...

In all seriousness, 21 is definitely not too old to start boxing.  Find a good gym and start learning.  The only way you'll ever really know if you were too old to start is if you try in the first place.

  4. No give it a try!  Boxing needs good heavyweight fighters!

  5. No, not at all.

  6. Remember this heavyweight generally depend on strength, and not speed, unlike the lighter weight classes when their prime is late 20's early 30's. Most heavyweight truly do not mature into their body until they are 28- 30 years old often the reason we see older heavyweight champions. If the majority of answer were yes, you are to old here would you still try it? If we said no it not to late and you tried with out success are we to blame? Your determination is all that counts, Like Rocky Balboa said" GO FOR IT"!!!!!

  7. It's not too late but you will need to train really hard and have a lot of amateur fights fairly quickly. Rocky Marciano didn't turn pro until he was 24 and only boxed professionally for 8 years but is remembered as one of the greats. He had only been boxing amateur about a year when he turned pro.

  8. no it is not too late. go to a boxing gym and they will help you get in shape and learn what you need to learn. go to amateurboxing.com, send an email and she will tell you of a boxing gym in your area

  9. Its never too late. You still have 13 years before the amatuer maximum age limit and no limits for pro.

Whether you can be world class is helped if you start a little earlier.

But in your favour is being a heavyweight, you can start later and last longer in the sport anyway.

Secondly, there were champs in history who started that late anyway.

    Get boxing :)

  10. h**l no look if your looking to compete at 21 DO IT! it`s never to late to start if you work hard enough, im 20 yrs old 2 fights

under my belt and im looking to go pro at at least 22-23

  11. You can be a Heavyweight but I would trim your size down to 200 or below and try Cruiserweight. If you want to try Heavyweight then you should trim down to 220 -225. 21 is not too old and with the right gym, trainers, heart, and determination you could can make a good run. Good Luck!

  12. Not hard if you already have some skill. Good luck.
