To learn martial art is always what i want to do. I love martial art movie, show, documentary, and now MMA is my favorite sport to watch.

I have no martial art background. But i think my body is still pretty agile. I do other sport such as swimming, basketball and weightlifting.

Im 5-7, 140 lbs.

Am i still in pretty good shape in martial art training ?

  1. It is better to start late and stick with it, than to start early and never finish.

  2. There's no age limit to start training in a martial art. So start taking lessons!

  3. Your fine, I'm about your size (I'm 14 and I'm built for football but i hate it) and I do Tae Kwon Do and I'm one of the best in my class score wise in the promotion tests.

  4. Well I am not sure how good of shape you are in ,but it is never too late for martial arts training. If you have a good school nearby go talk to them and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions before you sign up.I know people with no legs who train.Go for it!

  5. it's never too late to start a martial art.

a few years back we actually had a guy in our aikido club that started at the age of 65

  6. It's never too late.

Most martial arts are a centering excercise. they can help unite mind, body and "chi" or pysche (for lack of a better word).

I would recommend something like Aikido, Ken Po, or if you can Kung Fu.

Most styles and arts are different and you can learn a lot about yourself and the world around you.

Tai chi was, for me, a wonderful doorway to a new way of life and thought.

    Best of luck.

  7. Nope.  You can start now.

Shop around at some different dojos in your area.  You may find that one style doesn't feel right for you, or you don't care for the instructor, or the facilities are pretty seedy.  Ask for an intro lesson, or to pay for just one lesson in the beginner class.  Explain that you are looking at several different schools before you settle on one.  Get the info on packages, times, etc at each place.  Ask if they train for self defense, or for tournaments or exhibitions or competition, etc.  When you find the right one, you'll be happier, and more likely to stay with the program.

  8. nope it's not. as long as you keep yourself in pretty good shape, you'll be alright. i started @ 17 because i didn't make any of the spots team in my school. but then i took a 3 year break for school....i gotta get back to training lol

  9. It is never too late to start training in martial arts. It could possibly be too late to be getting started if you are considering getting into really serious competition or something along those lines. Otherwise definitely not too late, and really not saying that you couldn't even compete, but if you are considering getting into MMA and just now considering getting into your first training that could pose problems. It takes a couple of years in my opinion to become truly proficient in any type of fighting and with MMA you are mixing several different styles, so I would say it would take at least that same couple of years if not longer to start becoming truly proficient.

Give it a shot though if that is what you seriously want  to do.

  10. no way..... i used to take karate and there where people in my class that were in their 50's!

  11. You will be able to start your martial arts training.  Heck, even if you were 74 you could start training.
