  1. This is going to depend on where you live. In Idaho you could go through Welfare for paid training of up to a year at a local college and being homeless could apply for immediate housing in a low income apartment. With no job welfare would be required to provide immediate assistance with food and medical. In a small community this is a great start. Local churches can also be applied to for help by letting them know truthfully your situation and needs. I would be upfront when applying for a position also. When you get the job and you did not disclose the felony you will be terminated. I work for an upscale department store. Having a felony does not keep us from hiring someone as long as the interview goes well. The problem happens when someone doesn't disclose as we do background checks. I had to let go a fabulous young man who was a great employee last month for not letting us know he had a conviction which was a downer as we were looking at moving him up in the company!

  2. Give back the computer for a start.

Edit:  I'm sorry - I guess I spoke too soon.

Try ringing a free help line.  In Australia there's Lifeline, St Vincent de Pauls, the Salvation Army, etc, etc.  A friend of mine rang the Good Samaritans counselling line in England.  In the States I'd say there'd be something similar.  They all have trained counsellors on the phones who will be able to advise you of emergency shelter in your area and discuss your situation and options.

From there some organisations will be able to provide you with food and/or emergency food vouchers and clothing.

Many of these organisations also have a network of employers who have agreed to take on people who've been to jail and give them a job and skills to help in rehabilitation.  Or they will advise you on how to get social security while you get back on your feet.

Some will also help to find cheap housing and some will provide follow-up support to see how your going, help you to manage your money, deal with bills, and any other issues.

But first things first - make the phone call and go from there.

  3. Southern California.  Before the Winter comes.

  4. Well I just wish you the best of luck and really it is a no win situation for you but at least you have access to a computer that is a start.

  5. sell the computer

  6. If you have already "paid your debt to society", you could go to your local mission, or church, explain your situation, and they should be able to help you or send you to where you can get a job and a place to stay until you get settled.
