it can be Mediterranean, classic, japanese, contemporary. Choose one then, stick to it.. Just remember, Any interior design cannot correct a badly laid floor plan. So be careful

Make yourself a folder of magazine clippings of colors, kitchens etc to get ideas and incorporate your style into it. Look in Veranda, Home & Garden, Metropolis...

Price?  Size?  Location?  Styles that you like?   HGTV.com is a good place to start.

I would suggest that you work with a designer in the planning stages, more if you can. At the very least they will plan the furniture layout so that your light fixtures and outlets are appropriately positioned.
