  1. Just stay calm, your horse will pick up on your nerves. Vision yourself doing the course perfectly. Just go in there and do your best. Whatever you do DO NOT CIRCLE besides the opening and closing circle. that will count as a refusal. Look over your corse a million times so that all you can think about is your coarse. GOOD LUCK!!!

  2. draw them all out on a piece of paper and learn it

    relax and enjoy !

  3. See if anyone you know is going who can walk through the course with you and point out things you need to look for. Just remember to relax and have fun it is not hard and if you are sure you can jump well with your horse you will be fine. watch other people before you to cheek the order and draw a map of the jumps then they to remember them by colour or object near the jump and what end of the Ariana are they.

  4. I always read the course plan, go stand and learn the course by 'riding it' through from start to finish in my head . Once I know it, I go and walk it as I would ride it... work out strides, turns etc....

relax and enjoy , at the end of the day...you are there to have fun and if you mess up,look on it as a schooling round... theres always another day !!

    best , best of luck

  5. You can download the rule book from www.usef.org if you want to learn the rules.

  6. Last week i went to my first ever show with my pony. At first I was so scared. Don't worry, being scared is completely natural. The order of the fences isn't as difficult as i thought it would be. First, walk the course. Then watch other people do it and try to memorise it. If you think you will forget it, as soon as you are about to jump one jump look around to find the next jump, then it is almost impossible to forget!

Ok, Rules. First, you jump the course. If you get any faults like refuses or knocked down poles then you can just carry on as normal, but if you get 4 of these you are eliminated. If you get a clear round and the there is a jump off, you jump the jump - off jumps as quickly as you can because these will be timed.

The classes in most local shows are:

    Peter Pan (approx 20cm)

    Minimus (approx 50cm)

    Novice (approx 70cm)

    Intermediate (approx 80-90cm)

Open OR Affiliated (approx 1m and above)

Hope this helped! Each place varies in heights and classes.

  7. Walk the course and write it down. Measure the amount of strides to each jump. Give the jumps your own names so you can remember them.

Dont stress, its your first show, of course you will be scared.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

  8. Well. I'm not trying to scare you, but you have to whole-heartedly trust the horse that your one. My Arabian/Appaloosa mare is a WONDERFUL horse at home and will jump the moon but when I bring her off the farm she FLIPS. I got excused from my fist two classes at my show and scratched the rest. The point is, anything can happen on an unpredictable horse, but if your confident in that horse, be confident in yourself. And most of all have fun. Its not about the ribbons. Trust me I know that first hand.
