1. OK. First of all, calm down. You want to get a Teddy Bear hamster as your first hamster because they don't bite as much and dont need as much care. Second, please dont hurt your hamster buy getting that type of cage. Try a 10 gallon aquarium because there cheap, easy to clean, and big. Now on this website it will tell you the types of food you want to feed your hamster. http://www.hamsterland.com/default.asp?c...

Wait two to three days to ineract with her depending on how big her cage is. They use this time to explor and relax over the big move.

If you choose my smart idea then thgis is the cage you want:

    Bedding:http://www.petco.com/product/10791/Caref...

Dont use the plastic bowls, use the heavy ones. And your water bottle should be in good shape.

Sorry I gave you websites. I just want to show you some good research websites, and buying stuff.

My favorite website for hamsters is: http://www.hamsterland.com/

  4. Firstly, learn proper sentence structures. It was hard trying to figure out what the h**l you were saying there.

And don't 'shout' so much, its rather intimidating.

    Anyway.

I've just bought myself another hamster, a male, after having god only knows how many in my lifetime (and I'm 16 now, I've had a fair few.)

I don't know what websites you've been looking on 'cause I've found loads that've helped me through the years. Try turning safesearch off.

Ask at the petshop where you're buying the hamster from if you're so unsure.

Those names aren't really hamster-y, but hey, its your hamster. Go for it. Mine's called Ianto :)

You can't know for sure if a hamster will immediately like you, get the shop keeper to handle a few so they can show you how to hold it, and whether they'll bite or not.

About the treats, don't feed it too many. You need to feed it proper food. If you wanna know what treats to get it, look around for things that 'suitable for hamsters and other small animals' or whatever on the box. The ones I've had have always seemed to really enjoy sunflower seeds, peanuts, small carrot cubes and little bits of apple. You can buy little bags of special hamster chocolate/milk/yoghurt drops and such like for around 50p a bag, so its hardly breaking the bank if they don't like them.

Try and interact with her as soon as possible. To start with, just keep your hand in the cage. Don't make an sudden movements as this will scare her and she'll try and bite to defend herself. Let he come up to you and sniff you. If she climbs onto your hand do NOT try and pick her up yet.

Leave it a couple of days of just keeping your hand in the cage before you try picking her up. And never grip her around the middle, that scares them, also. Talk to her softly as you hold her, so she gets used to your voice. Keep her in a quiet envrionment too.

Oh, and remember - hamsters are nocturnal so they'll be more awake at night, and more likely to enjoy your contact. Don't try and wake them up or move them from their bed during the day.

  5. My son had a teddy bear hamster and it was soooo cute and friendly. Definitely Teddy Bears are friendlier. You can interact with them right away. You can put her on your bed and she'll crawl around and explore. They dont really sit still for long so you wont be cuddling, but once its used to you, it will definitely respond and come to you if it feels like it. Unfortunately, ous died giving birth and we didnt even know she was pregnant! Beware when you buy her, the pet store we bought her from mixed the males and females and ours had babies in her belly. You can tell a hamster is pregnant by shining a flashlight to its belly. Have fun!

  6. gee. i like websites. well get 'hamsters for dummies' from a bookstore. best hammy book ever. teddy bear? you might want to think about getting a bigger cage for a teddy.

  7. Well, first off, don't get a Crittertrail. They are WAY too small for syrian hamsters. I suggest a bin cage. Its cheap, easy, and safe for your hamster. Also, you can attach more cages to a bin simply. Second, don't get a hamster without doing thorough research. If you refuse to research, then your hamster will more than likely pass away. Go to http://www.hamsterhideout.com and read about hamsters. Look through the forum as well. You should always let people give you websites. If you haven't done research, then you will not be able to give your hamster the care it needs. Hopefully you will learn about hamsters, and become a good owner. If not, then I feel badly for the hamster that ends up living with you. Please, take my advice, and care for your hamster properly.

  8. Why can't we give you any websites? You want us to sit here and tell you everything there is to know about their care when there are websites that are dedicated to just that? Stop being lazy and do your research:

    http://www.petinfopackets.com/hamsters/h...

    http://www.hamsterific.com/

  9. DONT GET A HAMPSTER! At least not until you have all these answers answerd! Do t/ research & GET FAMILIAR w/ raising a hampster! That way you won't be disappointed when you think "it doesn't like you"

  10. if u dont know what the h**l your doing dont get a d**n pet

  11. I have had many many hamsters. Lost actually.

    First off...

#1. You should have the cage set up... all the acssesoiries. Like... water botel, beeding, food, wheel, toys, bed, chavings, treats. When you get your hamster right away put it in the knew cage. ONLY GET ONE!

Having a hamster makes you happy. It makes me feel like im not alone and they are great lisaners. THOUGH THEY DON'T SAY much. They are cute cuddly and some hamsters have a great persanalitie. Clean its cage 1 every 7 days.

I had a teddy bear hamster. In a way its good to have them but in another way its bad. You have to brush them a lot because they get long hair. Really big as well and they get poo stuck to them. My self i pafer panda bear hamsters, There so cute and you don't have to brush them. Make sure you know about hamters before you go and buy one.

p.s A good toy that hamsters LOVE is chanchila sand. IT CLEANS THEIR FUR AND THEY love it!!!! only 8$

  12. lol Layla is a cute name :]

um critter trails are awesome for hamsters and besides hamster treats you could gice her strawberries, apples, dog cookies like the small milkbone dogs biscuits, other types of fruit, but whatever you do dont feed her/him Lettuce or iceburg lettuce! idk whats in it but it can kill them :[ you should let her get use to her new surroundings for about 2 day before you handle her

so i think your pretty set to go.

  13. okay. first, you need to calm. down. wait a few months or so until u get a hamster - u rlly should know everything about them.

i think the names sound great, so cute! just to let you know teddy bear hamsters are the same as syrians, it's just a little nick name for them. u should only have one syrian hamster, as they can fight and sometimes even kill each other if a syrian hamster lives with another hamster. u should feed them hamster mix and sometimes give them a few carrot treats or lettuce - but make sure the hamster mix doesn't have too many sun flower seeds, as that can make ur hamster "plump". Get a fairly large cage that has a few tubes, they like that. u shouldn't give them seder or pine wood shavings for their cage - they have toxins - so i would recommend care fresh. give ur hamster wood chews so they can gnaw their teeth down to stop them from growing long. Before buying a hamster you need to make sure you have all the nessacery equipment setup ready at home. This will stop the hamster getting stressed as little as possible. Then they can go straight into their new home once you get there. Hamsters can easily be acquired from a breeder, pet shop or even a rescue centre. The best would be a breeder since you'll know that you're getting a quality hamster and will have a wide choice of colours and breeds. If a breeder cannot be found then a hamster from a shop or rescue is just as good. It's important to choose a hamster that is suitable for you. If you want a hamster that is small, you want more than one and it can live in groups with it's own kind then a Dwarf Hamster is what you're looking for. If you're looking to buy just the one hamster then the best choice is a syrian hamster since this type of hamster is solitary and must be kept on their own. A Syrian hamster is ideal for children or first time hamster owners because they're larger than Dwarfs and much easier to handle.Buying a cage is the biggest expense you'll spend on your hamster. You will need to buy something that will be big enough and suitable for the hamster you will be buying. The starter wire cages that are seen in pets shops are simply too small for most hamsters, especially syrians and should be the absolute minimum for a dwarf hamster. Dwarfs will need something that is escape proof, as these little hamsters can squeeze into very small spaces. If you want to buy a wire cage for a dwarf you will need to make sure that the bar spacing is small enough so it can't escape. Good types of cages for dwarfs are aquariums and tubs.A hamsters diet mainly consists of a dried mix that can be bought in pet stores. This will contain all the vitamins and minerals a hamster needs. Make sure the mix you buy doesn't contain too many seeds or nuts because too many of these can make your hamster fat. One thing to note when feeding dwarf hamsters is not to feed too many sugary foods as this could lead to diabetes. You should provide two teaspoons of the dry mix each day. Any food that your hamster doesn't eat should be thrown away.

Along with the normal hamster mix you can also feed your hamster fresh fruit and vegetables once or twice a week. Be careful you don't feed too many of these as it may cause the hamster to get diarrhoea.

The following is a list of some foods you can feed your hamster:

    Banana

    Sweetcorn

    Cucumber

    Apple

    Cheese

    Turnip

    Raisins

    Peas

    Carrot

    Celery

    Bread

    Grapes

    Melon

    Chicken

Never feed your hamster these foods:

    Chocolate

    Raw Kidney Beans

    Garlic

    Onions

    Raw Potato

    Sweets

Taming can be a long process, don't expect your hamster to suddenly like be handled over night. It can take weeks or even months depending on the hamster. When you first get your hamster leave it alone for the first 24 hours to let it get used to it's surroundings. After this time feed your hamster some treats from your hand so they get used to seeing your hand. Wait until your hamster wakes up on it's own to do this, hamsters don't like being woken up and it could result in you getting a nasty bite.Once your hamster seems confident with taking treats out of your hand you can try to start handling your hamster. Before you handle your hamster make sure you have washed your hands well. Hamsters have a strong sense of smell. If they smell something on your hand they may mistake it for food and decide to bite!Get a cup or something similar and place it into the hamster's cage. He should come to investigate and crawl inside. Take the hamster and cup out of the cage and let him walk out onto your hand. While you do this make sure you're sat down or sat close to the floor incase your hamster decides to jump. Let him walk from hand to hand. Be careful you don't grab or wrap your hands around your hamster until he is fully tame as this may scare him and he'll jump out of your hand.

Once your hamster is more confident with you, you can start to pick up your hamster straight from it's cage. Just make sure your hamster is aware that you are there, if not you may suddenly scare the hamster and it may turn around and bite you.Hamsters are very clean animals and are quite capable of cleaning themselves. When a hamster is cleaning itself you will notice that the hamster will l**k it's paws and rub it's face and ears or will look as if it is scratching when it's cleaning it's body. Hamsters don't require a water bath, in fact it's very dangerous to give them one as they can quite easily catch a cold if not dried properly and the water also removes essential oils from their fur that keeps it in good condition. A water bath should only ever be done if recommended by a vet for a treatment of an illness.ng haired syrians may require some extra grooming by you so their coat doesn't get tangled, this can be done with a toothbrush. Hamsters will also enjoy a sand bath which will also help keep their coat clean. Chinchilla sand is best used for this, but you must make sure it is sand and not dust as this is too fine for hamsters. Place a small amount in a dish and place it in their cage, the hamster will slowly walk up to and will probably start to dig in it at first. They will then usually start to roll around in it on their back.FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

    How long do hamsters live?

Syrians usually live on average two years, some have been known to live three or four years. Dwarfs usually live around one and half years and Roborovski usually around three years.

What type of hamster should I get?

Really, this is up to you, depending on your experience. If you are a total beginner a Syrian is most certainly recommended. Syrians Hamsters are very hardy hamsters so they are more suitable for beginners and younger children. On the other hand, some dwarf hamsters are fast and hard to handle.

Russian Campbell hamsters are sociable and it is recommended they live in a large cage with the same s*x species in which to keep him or her happy. In some cases though, hamsters may become territorial and fight. It is not absolutely vital that they are kept in pairs or groups it is just a friend to keep a hamster happy. Winter white are very much the same as Russian campbells.

Roborosvki hamster are small and fast. They are not recommended for beginners at all. A beginner would expect to be able to pick up his hamster and play and cuddle it. Roborosvki hamsters are very fast, very hard to catch and indeed, they are very hard to handle. So maybe not the best type of hamster for a beginner. They are also sociable and do well in pairs of groups of the same s*x.

Chinese hamsters are not usually found to be as sociable as other dwarf species. They are very small, and can be very fast. Not really recommended for a beginner…but do well with beginners, but still they are fast and hard to catch sometimes.

    Can syrian hamsters live together?

No. Syrian hamsters are solitary hamsters that means they like to live alone. Housing adult Syrians together can lead lead to serious fighting and sometimes death. The only companion a Syrian hamster needs is a human friend to play with him everyday.

    Can I bath my hamster?

No a hamster should never be cleaned with water. Hamster are very fragile and can easily become ill. You can however give your hamster a dish of chinchilla sand in which they can roll around in and help clean their fur. Make sure it is sand and not dust, dust is too fine for a hamster.

    My hamster escaped? Help?

Firstly close all doors in your house then place a pile of food in each room and check regular to see if any has gone missing. If you notice any gone you'll know the hamster is in that room. Check everywhere, hamsters can get into the smallest spaces. You could also setup a bucket trap, place a bucket in a room and inside put some food and bedding inside. Put some books up to the top of the bucket like a staircase. Hopefully the hamster will climb up the books smell the food in the bucket and jump inside.

Can Syrians and dwarfs live together?

No Syrians are solitary meaning they like to live alone. Also mixing different species of hamsters isn't a good idea, they wouldn't live like that in the wild.

OMG! My hamster is eating it's own p**p?

Don't worry that is perfectly normal. Hamsters don't always absorb all the nutrition in food they eat first time around so to get all the nutrition they need they will eat their own p**p.

How do I tame my hamster?

See this page for info on how to tame your hamster.

Why does my hamster sleep most of the day?

Hamsters are nocturnal meaning that they like to sleep during the day and wake up in the evening or night.

My hamsters wheel squeeks, is there something I can do to stop it?

Yes, you can rub a little vegetable oil on the axel where the wheel spins. You will have

  14. I'm not trying to be mean, but i don't understand that if you didn't know what to do, why would you get a hamster anyway.

The nicer part of this answer is here, see, I waned a guinea pig, so I read books about them, bought books about them, looked on the computer about them, i read the books OVER, so, now I know pretty much every thing about them. But sometimes I need to still look up things about them.

I named my dwarf hamster Cute, I now it's kiddish, but I was 5 then.

Good Luck with your new fury friend!!☺☻♥

  15. blueberries and watermellon will NOT give your hamster wet tail. It may give them diareah but that is a completely different illness.
