Im Irish, living in the UK, with Irish driving license - what happens if I get caught speeding?

They have told me I can have a GB counterpart license, which will enable them to give me the points and fine me. If I dont get one of them, it goes to court and the judge decides what happens. No-one seems to be able to tell me what *might* happen in court, other than I don't have to be there. Anyone any idea?

I am sure that it would be like any violation, you could be fined, you could face jail time and your license that you have could be suspended.
