  1. Well if you want to do an overhand serve start now your already a little behind, I have been doing it since 5th grade, you need to just practice is all I can tell you, make sure you arch your back too.

  2. This is my general response to overhand serving problems. I used to do something different for each one, tailored to everyone specific needs, but I simply cannot do that anymore, but this is my original answer, and it took a long time to create, so I hope it will help many people.

    1. Make sure you are lined up correctly

-Put your feet together at a 45 degree angle

-Spread them apart to where you are comfortable, keeping them at the proper angle.

    2. Align you tossing hand

-Your hand should be parallel to your hitting arm, not straight out in front of you.

    3. Toss

-Keeping your tossing hand parallel to hitting hand, gently lift the ball STRAIGHT UP so it doesn't move behind your head.

    4. Steps

-At this moment, your right foot should be behind your left. When approaching the ball, there are two options.

    a. The One-Step

-Take one small step with your left foot.

    b. The Two-Step

-Take one small step with your right foot, and then another with your left.

    5. Strike

-The ball is in the air, and you bring your hitting arm back, up, and using your palm (not your fist) you will hit the ball in it's center, and still watching the ball, snap your wrist to add topspin.

-Finish your serve by bringing your arm to your thigh, this will add power and direction.

  3. try jumping. do more push-ups they really do help!!also, try to get angry about something then kill the ball. :)

  4. Depending on what hand you are put the ball in your left hand and hold your hand straight out. Bring your arm back to your shoulder and just hit the ball. It takes upper body strength and arm strength so you might want to workout alittle.

  5. start from the 10 foot line and serve it over the net about 5 times in a row, than back up 2 steps and do it again. its great practice, and its how i learned to overhand serve.

  6. First you need to warm up your hands by throwing the volleyball as hard as you can with both hands, then left, then right

Next you need to get your throws rights and wait untill they are perfect. Do about 20 perfect throws for a couple days.

Then after you get that then keep you hand open and swing . You want your hand to meet the ball as high as your hand can reach.

  7. lol, i was twelve, or eleven when i did my first did my overhand serve.

first if you're right handed, (if you're left handed then do it opposite or whatever you're comfertable with)

hold the ball in your left hand, and use your right hand to cup on top of the volleyball, looks kinda like a sandwhich. then throw the ball with your left hand i bit above your head and at the same time move your right hand (its still kinda like a cup) and move it a little bit behind your ear, when the ball comes abt higher then your forehead, hit it with your cupped right hand.

  8. I am your age and I still have a little bit of trouble overhand serving, but my coach says if you throw the ball a little in the air, give your feet a little bounce, and then with your fist, fully hit the ball really hard, you should get a pretty good serve.

    I hope I helped.

    Good luck

    :)

  9. This is what my coach used to tell me when I couldn't over hand serve. First of all you have to swing really hard but still be in control of where your arm is moving. Spread your fingers out so you have good coverage on the ball, and when you contact the ball make sure that after you swing your fingers are pointing to where you want the ball to go. good luck :-)

  10. hey! ok if you write with your right hand like me then but your right foot in front. when you throw it up dont throw it to highand a lil in front of you. take a step and hit. it is all about timing and power. it takes some practice and it is hard. but dont give up.

  11. It's all about practicing.

You can start out by practicing against a wall if you dont have a partner... start out close to the wall and hit against it 10 times. Take 2 steps back and hit against it 10 times. vice versa until you feel like you have it down.

The trick is in your waist... beginners usually start out with their arm strength and that's not enough unless theyre very athletic. When you hit the ball use your waist to twirk to the side and your back to snap forward. DONT DROP YOUR SHOULDERS or it will go into the net.

Before you hit the ball you should also take one step forward with your left foot (if ur a righty) and right foot (if ur a lefty)

keep practicing and you'll get it soon kiddo.

    Lift weights to help your upper body get stronger;

    curls

    pushups

crunches (not sit ups... those ruin your back)

do those 3 times a week
