Actually we are planning to take a road trip around USA then we will have to drive through Canada to our destination in New York, and I'm worried that they would think I'm trying to kidnap my cousin because she's only 15 year old and I'm not her legal guardian or anything as I'm only 19..so do I need get some kind of permission from someone or what?

  1. unless you want to get turned in. Twenty years is a long time

  2. You absolutely need the signed consent of both of her parents.  It would be a good idea to get the letter notarized, and for it to state where you will be in Canada and how long.  The letter should give the contact information, including current phone numbers, of both parents.

She will need her birth certificate for ID.  If both of her parents are named on her birth certificate but there has been a divorce or separation, and you cannot get the permission of both her parents, you need a copy of the custody order giving custody to one parent.  It would be a good idea if both her parents are available by phone while you are crossing the border in case the officials decide to call them to make sure everything is ok.  Let her speak for herself if the border officials ask questions.

Both Canadian and US border officials are very cautious about minors crossing the border without both parents.  Make sure you have all the paper work in order.  Best of luck with your plans.

  3. Have a note from both of her parents and have it noterized by a public notary (Legal worker).

  4. maybe get like a note from her guardian just in case they give you troble.
