  1. You can come through BUNAC on an open work permit for up to 6 months, see http://www.bunac.org/usa/workcanada/

    If you are really set on no less than one year, you can try to get a job offer and a temporary work permit in Quebec, see http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca...

  2. If you want to live and work in Montreal you will need a temporary work visa.  You will need to qualify for this type of visa and must meet the requirements and pay the fees.

    If you just want to visit and be a tourist you can stay in Canada for up to 180 days visa free if you are a citizen of the United States.

    You can go to the Citizenship and Immigrations Canada website to view all the information about visiting and/or working in Canada.  www.cic.gc.ca

    You need to pay special attention to the requirements in Quebec because they are different than the requirements for the other provinces.

    I emigrated to Canada as a Permanent Resident.  I am also a US citizen.  The process into Canada can be lengthy and expensive.  I waited almost 4 years to get PR status, most people wait 1-2 years.  A temporary work visa should take less than a year under normal circumstances.

    Good Luck.

  3. Here is a link to the Immigration information website of the Government of Canada.

    You have to apply and be accepted, for a temp work permit, then you can come to Canada, to seek work. Getting a TWP will take about 6 months to complete;

    Go Here.

    Good Luck .
