  1. The Football Bowl Subdivision was formerly Division 1A

    The Football Championship Subdivision(FCS) was Division 1AA

    Since there are two Division 1 subdivisions in Football they renamed them to avoid confusion. The FCS uses a PLAYOFF format, like EVERY DIVISION OTHER THEN 1A.
