Okay so heres the deal, the public libraries around my city are having a big Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament.

So i went to the qualification rounds in one of the libraries we warmed up and then the match began, each time i progressed during the rounds, i would get nervous and i mid fight that didn't seem to matter to me anymore. i beat everyone quite easily, although i did make a few mistakes like not jumping fast enough on a car on Big Blue i know nobody's perfect...

anyway next weekend is the BIG FINAL TOURNAMENT with 19 of the best qualifiers in the city (excluding the runner-ups) the winner gets a $100 gift card to best buy...

i've never been to a tournament before and i bet the vibe from the qualification round is nothing compared to the tournament.

Its 8 more days to the actual tournament and im well... nervous and excited and a little scared

so... im asking gammers who have been to tournaments... what was it like and what they did to prepare for it

  1. Wow, you must be really good!  I think $100 is a lot for playing video games.  The pride of winning is worth something too!

You just have to have confidence.  Make sure you are at your best--get plenty of sleep the night before, do a good warm-up, all that stuff.

That nervousness you have, that actually works -for- you if you know how to use it.  When you're nervous like that your body is pumping out adrenalin, your mind is racing, your muscles are twitching, etc.  You are actually at your best!  If you do it wrong, it can wear you out, but if you can control it, it works for you!

But the best way to control it is to KNOW that you are the best.  Have the confidence to know that you can win, or at least that you will give it your best shot.  This is something all real athletes know about and learn to handle.  It's the same thing you get when you have to speak in front of people or act or perform.  If you talk to anyone who has done any of these things and done them well, they'll tell you about it.

Best of luck to you!  I hope you win!

  2. I actually had a class about this... anxiety and stress, the video was kind of funny but some parts were intersting, what i saw... anyways.. i heard that stress and anxiety before the thing is good for you... after the tournament... if u win... ull be really happy and just focus about the game and nothing else... good luck

  3. Nervousness comes from insecurity. Just don't worry about losing and have some confidence. Practice a lot before the tournament if your serious about it. When your playing, stick to just playing the game and don't have anything else run through your mind.
