I was a cheerleader and there were a lot of girls on my squad who got their skirts shortened. And no, they didn't shorten it to the slutskank level; they were basically in your situation. I would do it. But it also depends on your height and skirt type. My A-line skirt was 13inches and I'm 5'2. My fly-away (the type that's all strips) was 14 inches because it's more I guess you can say revealing. I also had my skirt tightened by a tailor because it was too loose. If your squad ordered them through Varsity, they tend to mess them up all the time. A tailor should do fine.

I suggest you check with your coach or read the rules and regulations you have to follow for dress codes. They might be that way for a reason, really. Maybe your school doesn't want short skirts and if that's the case; then you need to follow that. If there are no rules then you can go get it tailored but I highly suggest you wear a tight short under and not just underwear. Don't be the s1utty cheerleader :)
