  1. I think the best answer is if you combine what "mbl" & "Average Joe" suggested.

I've been impressed with "mbl's" answers to other questions.  It's pretty obvious he knows what he's talking about.

  2. To add to MBL, i'd like to say, if your range has a grass area, definitely use that. A lot of ranges have the turf mats and they don't do you any good, especially if you're a beginner because they don't react like real grass/ground does.

  3. I would spend more time on the range and practice putting green. But you definitely will want to mix in some playing as well.  The experience of playing is far different than that of hitting balls on a range. As a beginner, you may find 9 holes to be plenty. Also, you may want to avoid the crowds by playing at low demand times.  Good Luck.

  4. theres nothing to stop you but would suggest before you do check out your driving range and practise , as regards to grip and stance , swing practice in the garden or park it could sve you a bundle on lost balls , and irate golfers behind you good luck

  5. You'll know when you're ready. Go out and play if you want, just be repectful or golfers playing behind you and don't hold them up too much, or let them play thru. And GOOD LUCK!!!!

  6. you could be a natural at golf. see how your lessons go and then ask your trainer what he thinks.  and before you EVER step foot on a golf course..study up on the etiquette and rules of the game.  these are very important in the classy game of golf. and just relax. golfing is FUN not competition. as long as you know the basics of what you are doing, im sure you will be fine.

  7. besides learning the game of golf you also need to learn about the rules and etiquette of the game. also try to play with better players you will lean more quickly. but most of all enjoy it. good luck.

  8. For the first times out, dont use anything but a 7 iron maybe a 5 iron, at this stage its more important for you to get a good regular swing and hit at the ball.....distance covered and shots taken, is not important just now.

Dont try and murder the ball, a nice easy swing will do the trick.

    Good luck

  9. go to a hacker's course (a cheap local course) - just be sure to let other's play thru if you are slow, keep looking behind you - if they want to pass, wave them thru.

i used to hit another shot if i hit a bad one, but you spend more time looking for balls and it can be a bad habit to get into. My dad does this on almost every shot! it takes forever to play a round, and he always beats me because he never counts the shots!

driving ranges are great but the way to get better at golf is getting the ball in the cup (and you can't do that on a range).

most important have fun! my game goes downhill fast when i take it too seriously. When i am having fun, i play better.

    hope this helps!

  11. Range Range Range practice until you feel ready man. Just playing with out much practice = alot of lost balls ,numerous  frustrating moments, If you can buy the medicus 5 or 7 iron its a dual hinged club that collapses when the swing is off its the best aid ever made. My coach a retired Pga pro uses it and introduced me to it its a great thing. Look it up read some reviews you will see what I am talking about.
