Sit on the center of the bench, guard the water cooler and tackle anybody who comes near it.

Sure, give it a try.  You may never know you could have a real talent to play football.  But before you decide to play, just make sure you are in shape, because the worst thing would be to go out on the field ill prepared.  Give it a shot, and see what happens.

I am not sure what you mean by geek, but if you are small, try to be the punter or kicker.  Size does not mean everything.  If you really want to play football, go for it.

Sure.  I always liked when geeks and skaters and other "social outcasts" came out to play.  Dont let anyone tell you that football is a dumb game.  I would die to have smarter kids come out so I wouldnt have to dumb down the game.  The best coaches I have known have been brilliant mathematicians, Phil Robbins at Powell Valley High School comes to mind.  I have even seen algorithims to determine and plan defensive strategies.  Even if you dont make the first string cut, you may become invaluable on the practice squad, which every week has to learn and replicate the upcoming opponent's offense and defense.  No dumb jock can learn that much that fast.  Assuming you are not Goliath, try out for QB if you are at all athletic but otherwise go out for a "skills" slot.  Also, your coaches will like you, admit or not, because your grades in school help pad those of the other players, lol.
