  1. Join a class. No need to reinvent the wheel.

  2. look backwards, but jus turn your neck.

  3. Skating backwards takes practice, for me one day I was just doing backward wiggles and it came to me. Just keep practicing and good luck!

  4. There's basically three ways to go backwards without involving complex figure skating steps: Twist which is basically "wiggle" your body, Sculling and crossovers.

The Twist isn't all that hard. The trick is that you don't swing your arms like crazy. Instead, you bend your knees and move your hip left and right. Unless the rink is empty and you're not about to crash against the wall, you are not supposed to look at your legs, you are supposed to have to head turned backwards to see where you are going. Takes a bit of courage and practise, but once you are used to it, it's quite fun really.

The last 30 seconds of this short video shows you what the Twist looks like and how a beginner skater should do them. Notice though that the girl is looking at her feet instead of looking backwards but I guess it's okay cuse she's alone in the rink anyways.

Sculling is hard to explain without visually showing it. The video above shows the girl doing sculling, but it's in the far side of the rink and you don't see them clearly, but knowing how to do the Twist is more than enough for you. You can also do it forwards. Figure skiing on ice skates.

  5. Just make sure you are bending you knees and your arms out  to your side while looking backward(just your neck turned) and wiggle your body and that could help.  Hope it Works!!  Good luck!!  :o)
