The Guidance Counselor I first had could not understand what classes I was taking my freshman year at another school. Because she wouldn't listen to me, I was put in 9th grade classes. I was thinking that maybe if I become homeschooled I can catch up, get ahead, and graduate high school early. Then I can leave these childish high school games behind and move onto college. What do you think??

  1. Are you self-motivated?  Can you discipline yourself to work hard in order to complete your work?  Homeschooling can be a good or bad experience depending on both you and your parents.  If everyone is willing to work hard, to accept certain sacrifices that must be made, and to really commit to it, then homeschooling can be a great experience!  I see that one person above obviously hasn't done much research on the subject.  I know several homeschooled kids who are way above their grade level.  My niece is sixteen and is already in college; she absolutely loves it!  She didn't like the immaturity of the kids in high school, and all the foolishness that went on.   She's majoring in music, and loves all of her classes.  My own son just turned thirteen and is working part time in a recording studio for a couple of hours a day; all because of being out in the REAL world while his peers are in school all day.  Sure beats working at McDonald's or Burger King!

If you're really diligent at homeschooling, you can be finished with all your subjects in four or five hours and have the rest of the day to get together with other homeschoolers, or to do whatever you want verses spending all day at school, then coming home only to do tons of homework.

There are a lot of homeschool curriculum and resources.  We use ABeka because it's more advanced than some of the others, but take a look at many other options as well.  Just google "homeschool curriculum" or "homeschool resources".  Good luck!

  2. A highschool degree looks better then a GED! So just sit down with your parents, counselor, and pricipal and discusss it!

  3. Homeschooling sounds like just the thing for you! But it takes comitment. You'll find that school will become more enjoyable, you'll have more academic oportunities to discover yourself and your learning style, follow your interests, and set and meet your own goals. You'll likely become much more self motivated if you do this, and socially you'll find that you have more opportunities than you did in public school and more time to take advantage of them... But none of this happens automatically. It will take effort from you and your parents, but it will be worth it in the long run.

First step is to go to HSLDA.org and look up your state's homeschool laws. Then google homeschooling, homeschool support groups or co-ops in your area, homeschooling methods, and curriculum. Learn what's out there and do your research. If you haven't already presented the idea to your parents, they will be MUCH more likely to go along with it if they see you're already doing your "homework" on it so to speak. Good luck!

  4. stay in a high school

you need to have a meeting with your parents and guidance councilor to sort out the situation

high school is an experience, not a childish game

homeschooling is not the best way to get ahead in high school, the teachers are quite experienced (math, science and history especially) and give a better education then just a book or you parents
