  1. Poetry like everything else is neither masc or feminine its a societal perception. Japanese samurai were expected to be capable of writing haiku (japanese poetry) in a beautiful script or calligraphy it was about balancing the wa( or soul). So some in our culture will say that it is and some will say its not. Just like some will say rap is not music so its your choice or call but a bit of advice ..take a stand enjoy your passions because regret will last much longer than a couple of cheap jabs from people that are to scared to stand against societal preconceptions, and the sharpest jabs will come from the weakest minds

  2. Isn't rap poetry? Just tell 'em that.

  3. Dose it matter what other think ? Do you want to live your life the way you want to live it ? or do you want to be a mindless robot and just live your life the way other people program you to live it..Think about what you really want. good luck

  4. nerdy... maybe femmy... depends on where you live and the norm. situation i think?  just be who you are, and let them know that this doesn't change who you are.  rap like a balla' and etc... whatever you... uber masculine people do.

  5. no poetry is an art an it's not just for girls

  6. Poetry is not just for girls, in fact, poetry will probably help you get girls.

  7. Some thoughtless people might think so; Walt Whitman was admittedly g*y, and poetry has a certain sensitivity to beauty and art that some would label less masculine.

On the other hand, since you are already known for loving sports and rapping, I'd venture to guess that if you joined the poetry club, it may become popular among educated, thoughtful, straight boys.

In effect, the known quantity of your masculinity will rub off on their perception of poetry.

And as someone mentioned, a poetry group would be a great place to meet girls.

Go for it, use your gift, and increase the culture level of your school.

  8. If you get called feminine then people are just making fun of you. I know lots of guys who write and write poetry, but they are still masculine. Don't worry about those who call you feminine do what you want and don't let anyone stop you.

  9. The simple fact that you had to declare yourself "straight" and get all defensive about your masculinity tells me that you feel it will make you femmy. The truth is it probably won't make any difference accept to the most ignorant of your classmates.

  10. no! poetry can be very masculine!! just don't write poetry about unicorns, flowers or sad clowns lol. see : Tennyson, Poe or Cummings.

  11. No. Lots of great poets are men. Oscar Wilde, e. e. cummings, Robert Frost, Edgar Allen Poe...

and me! hahaha just kidding. I've been writing since I was in fifth grade and I definitely don't think it's feminine. ART IS MANLY -gruntgrunt-

  12. No, no, no, You are a stereotype follower.

    Rap is poetry.

  13. not really.. masculinity is always there

  14. no...why should you let what others may think of you interfere with what you enjoy doing??

    thats stereotyping....dont be that guy

    just be yourself
