  4. If you are 13, you CAN cook for yourself..that's sort of your choice.

Here are some examples of vegetarian foods with high sources of plant protein:

PROTEIN IN LEGUMES: Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas

PROTEIN IN GRAINS: Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice

VEGETABLE PROTEIN: Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini

PROTEIN IN FRUITS: Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry, Tangerine, Watermelon

  5. If you are worried about protein, don't be, unless you are anorexic, bulimic or eat nothing but junk food.

I would advise you to give up junk food altogether. Your sense of taste would change dramatically.

If you eat bread, pasta, rice, beans, peas, and lentils, there is no way you'll need more protein unless you are a bodybuilder. In that case, you would just have to eat more of those foods.

  6. Well i understand the situation your in cause I'm a veg. too. Drink lots of milk, eat tofu, veggies, fruit, and beans.

  7. I love edamame - It's raw soybeans.  You can buy them in bags frozen at most grocers and in all whole foods markets.  You can just put a handful in a bowl, add some water, salt it a little, and microwave until warm - then you take off the pod and eat.  It's so good, and it doesn't taste like Tofu (which I hate).

  8. Soy. Soy is the golden child of vegetarian diets since it can be made into practically fake anything. Soy-dogs, vege-burger meat, Tofu, smoothies, or by itself (edamame).

It's scary, you can make a fake anything with soy. Check your local health food store, or grocery store.

  9. Beans are a great source, as are eggs. Quorn products are good, cheese.  Fish if your are a pescatarian.

Give mum this recipe it's great.

    3 bean casserole

4 med potatoes sliced 1/4'' and par boiled for 5 mins

    4 oz strong cheese, chedder

    3 varieties of beans, tinned.

    1 onion,

    2 cloves garlic, optional

2 or 3 sticks of celery.

    2 or 3 carrots

    tin of tomatoes

    jar of passata

vegi stock cubes or vegi bouillon

tsp parsley tsp basil  dried, if fresh handful of each.

    Olive oil

Sweat off garlic onions and celery in olive oil for 5 mins

add herbs and stock cubes stir around

add in carrots and all the beans, stir around,

add tinned toms and passata, season lightly with salt and pepper.

    Simmer for 20 mins

Put into casserole dish, top with the sliced potatoes and grated cheese bake in a hot oven  200. for 15 to 20 mins.

  10. Quinoa, this is a complete protein.  You/ your mom should look into different quinoa recipes. There is a cookbook called the Real Foods Daily Cookbook that you should look at, it has a good quionoa soup.

  11. beans are high in protien, so is soy so you can drink soy milk. i like vanilla soy milk. also, tofu if you like it. oh, i love eating veggie burgers theyre so good. cottage cheese has protien, i like to eat it with pineapple chunks.

i found this website, theres a chart at the bottom

    http://www.vegsoc.org/info/protein.html

  12. Protein is found in most foods and it's a myth that vegetarians have a hard time getting enough.

Soybeans and foods made from them (like tofu, tempeh, tvp, edamame, soy milk, and fake "meat" products) have a lot of protein.  Other types of beans and legumes are great sources (any type of bean, lentils, peas, peanuts, peanut butter, chickpeas.)  Also, whole grains (like cereal, whole grain bread, brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa,) vegetables (especially dark green ones,) all kinds of nuts and seeds, dairy products and eggs are good sources.  Protein is present in just about all foods except for oils, though fruits have only a small amount.  If you're eating a variety of foods from all of the vegetarian food groups, you shouldn't need to worry about protein.

  13. If you eat eggs and dairy products, then it's easy.  Eat cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.  Ask your mom to make you a bunch of hardboiled eggs.  They are easy to pop into lunches and grab for breakfasts.  Egg salad sandwiches too!

Some frozen veggie burgers are high in soy protein.  Bocca burgers is one brand.  You can microwave them, but they are better if you pan fry them slowly in a bit of olive oil.

Hummus and vegetarian bean soups and chili are all great sources of protein from beans.  You can also buy roasted, flavored tofu in refrigerated packs.

  14. Make a "shake" with tofu.  I used to make them for my son when he was a baby.  Now I just mix it in his yougurt which is another idea for sneaking in tofu.  Scrambled tofu with cheese is another one of his faves.

  15. Go with your mom to the store and get some convenience soy foods. (burgers, hot dogs, sausage etc...)  They can all be cooked in the microwave, and are a good source of protein.

  16. here is a list of protein for vegetarians
