Im 21 year old I wana start my own innovative fast food chain, newspaper, innovative internet project, and record label sooner than later. I wana start now( while going to school pt) because I have great ideas and I wana put them in motion. But some people tell me to wait and slow down wait till ya older with a degree. But I already started my business plans for most of my projects ( also ive been studying and practicing all aspect of owning a business by interviewing other entrepreneurs, being more of a leader at work, reading books, and also I plan to start really small . I think its better to start something risky when you dont have a family( also I dont have debt, im a waiter at a fine dining diner so I make good money, I got a used car, live with mom to save money. So is it better to wait till I get my degree first or should go head with my plan to make it happen but school will be pt ?

  1. i agree with jewel h. I am 23 years old with a college degree. If I had the chance to do it over I would not have wasted those 4 years of my life haha. Seriously I would say finish school because if anything else fails your degree will help you get a job however, like i mentioned before I am 23 with a degree for not apparent reason because I started my own business 2 years ago at age "21" and I now make a 6 figure income. Follow your dreams. The best advice I can give you would be to practice self discipline and develop some contacts

  2. A degree is a tool, so are those who put to much weight on degree's. The way universities are going lately I'd rather work with someone who hadn't been screwed up in the head by several years in an idiot producing factory.

Now, if you really need advanced math, you might need to get some higher education. Good writing skills? Ok, maybe, but the rest of it? Useless drivel, and the piece of paper you get is only a status symbol for idiots. Anyone with a good mind for business knows you go forward with a good idea, and you can hire the schmucks who went to college to do the mundane details. Leaders are rare and valuable, those who can learn to spell, use math and English? A dime a dozen.

Many of the greatest most inventive entrepreneur's have dropped out of college. Bill Gates for one, who could easily be the richest man in the world if he didn't give it away. He dropped out his 2nd year and never looked back. Never let a formal education get in the way of a good business idea and getting on with it before someone else does.

  3. finish your degree--its good to have credentials, so when you have someone thinking why they should do business with you, you can say "I have this, this and this going for me".  Otherwise, you look like some kid, who half-arses things, and potentially doesn't finish what he started...get your degree, and go from there.  Besides, enjoy being young is also important--you only get to be young once!

  4. Ross T hit the nail on the head.

    Action rather than words.

I own a business myself and one little bit of advice. If you wish to be serious and taken seriously talk and act in a more businesslike fashion. I beleive the word is want not wana, for example.

Desire is a good thing but remember it is your desire.
