Vahid Halilhodzic has made quite a start to the New Year by saying that he can win Europe’s most prestigious club competition as he prepares to lead http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757 this month
The 60-year-old tactician built his reputation as a solid manager during his time at Ligue 1 outfits LOSC Lille and Paris Saint-Germain and is currently the manager of African giants, Algeria who he will lead during the African Cup of Nations set to be hosted
by South Africa later this month.
Since leaving PSG back in 2005, Halilhodzic has grown his coaching horizons with successful stints at Dinamo Zagreb and then Ivory Coast whom he guided to the World Cup finals and the African Cup of Nations in 2010.
And now, the tactician has achieved the same feat with the Fennecs who have a really talented group of players at their disposal. As he continues to broaden his international credentials, Halilhodzic says that he has not really been given a great opportunity
to show his skills at club level.
While talking to L’Equipe, the 60-year-old said that he can win the UEFA Champions League if given the opportunity because he is not inferior to anybody.
"I'm lacking a club that's capable of winning the Champions League. I'm able to win the Champions League, and that's not being pretentious. When I hear that music, it does something to me," he told
L'Equipe. "I'm inferior to nobody. The other day, when I was watching http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, they had put one player up front. It was an enormous mistake, which I would never make. I know who can play in attack, in midfield and in defence."
Indeed, Halilhodzic achieved the unthinkable when he guided a then modest Lille side to the Champions League almost ten years back and was considered by many as a real star coach in the making. However, Halilhodzic says that maybe it is his nature to be
a strict disciplinarian that has made him miss out on making a move to a big club that has the chances of winning the Champions League.
