  1. it will be very challenging if you are not exsperinced. for for a bourd easirely used try a long board.

  2. probabally, im 5'9 and ride a 5'6 sharpeye and my 5'8 friend rides a 5'4 sharpeye

  3. You need a board that will float you well enough for you to take off (paddle and catch a wave). Most people learn best on long boards, although I have seen lots of surfers start on a short board and master it. There are no RULES for learning how to surf.

With that being said, that board may be a tad bit too small for you. Your weigh/bouyancy ratio may leave you 'sunk'. Give it a try. If you cant paddle it, use it as a trade in in something more substantial.Long boards are ideal for learners. There are also good internediate length boards to learn on, funshapes, mini-mals and some hybrids. ).

. Go to a good local surf shop and talk to the surfers there. They will give you good advice for what works in the local breaks you will be riding.

  4. absolutely. im 6'4'' 163lbs and i dont have any trouble on a 5'8'' board.

BUT it all depends on your break. if its usually small, i wouldnt bother with it, use a funshape. but if you normally see some overheads, go for it.

  5. maybe go extreme

  6. Given what you've said I'd try a bigger floatier board for awhile at least...there's going to be less to worry about and you can focus on your balance and technique

  7. its all about weight and your skill set at this point and the waves you are going to ride..  for a short quick board HB is great, Newport Beach, and T-street in San Clemente can be fun but a bit slow at times, check the surf report, then kick it

  8. No you want a board a couple inches longer than you are tall. sure you could, but it would be really difficult to stay afloat and paddle...

  9. you will find it very hard if your of low skill
