Ok here is the situation. I am adopted. I am 30+ now but was recently diagnosed with a rare disease. I have heard its hereditary and dont want to pass it along to my kiddo who is almost 11 and has a heart disease. Please anyone who can help, please give me advice as per how to get my records and such.

  1. Yes.  Tell us where you are, and maybe someone from that state can help you.

  2. It depends the state in which you were adopted.  This link will take you to information about each state and how to go about getting records.  Know that in 44 states, you will be unable to access records without meeting certain requirements.  In some of those states, it's almost impossible to get your records, despite medical problems.

As others have mentioned, the information that may be available from the agency from 30+ years ago is useless, whether it was accurate at the time or not.

The only way to get any sort of meaningful medical information is to ask your first family.  So, if you find that you can get your records, you'd still need to locate your first family and ask.

  3. TALK TO YOUR PARENTS THE ONES WHO ADOPTED YOU LOOK FOR THE PLACE YOU WERE ADOPTED FROM AND SEARCH FOR YOUR BIRTH PARENTS IF THEY'RE LIVING . WHAT ABOUT THE HOSPITAL YOU WAS BORN AT THEY SHOULD HAVE YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS

  4. sorry hope it works out

  5. unless you live in one of the 6 states with open records, you're out of luck.

the medical histories on file from adoption as it was when you and i were adopted, are all falsified.

    :(

  6. knowing your history now won't help -- your child is already born so if it's hereditary welllll, . . .

but if you are interested in searching, contact your state department of children and family services.  Most states have programs available to assist adoptees in obtaining updated medical information.

  7. Depends where you are from. I am in the UK, and I got in touch with the adoption agency who delt with my adoption. They had my records and they were given to me when I turned 18. Hope you get what you need and good luck :)

  8. You can't do anything now regarding passing it along to your already born child if it's hereditary.  It's not like it's contagious.

You can try to petition the court to open your records if you are in a closed adoption state.
