  1. To visit El Salvador for a couple of months, all you need is a valid US passport. You can apply for a US passport with your birth certificate and photo ID at most post offices.  A visa for El Salvador will be issued to you (they'll stamp it right in your passport) upon arrival in El Salvador for a small fee (around $10).

If you intend to stay there for an extended period of time or permanently, you will need to apply for residency. Here's the government link that provides info on how to apply for residency:

  2. You can go to the Salvadorian Consulate and apply for the visa. Take you flight itinerary, US passport, and i believe the fee is around 100 dollars. There should be a consulate in your state. If you are in NY the adress is:

    Consulate General of El Salvador

    46 Park Ave.

    Phone: 212-889-3608
