Im applying for an immigration to the USA I need a police check do i need a fingerprint check for the US?

I went to my local police staion and filled in an application for a police check and gave them a fee and then I looked online and it says 2 things that I only need a name check if im immigrating to the USA and only need fingerprints if moving to canada im all confused now...

No.. only if you'll apply for citizenship in america will you need to give fingerprints.
