I`m back in school, 35yrs old, I feel out of place, will it get better?

Question

I`ve been out of high school for many years, I went back to school, I`m now enrolled in a community college at age 35, but almost every one is 19 to early 20s, I feel a bit weird, will things get better?

it's ok to feel out of place,  I'm 25 and i feel out of place a lot 18 and 19 year olds often.  Try to focus on learning and not so much on what everyone else is focusing on.

I have a girl in one of my small Journalism classes that is at least 40, and there have been others in my class that are older than I am.  I know someone who is in their 30's and in school it's all ok don't worry about it.

Things did for my Aunt. She went back after a decade of dropping out to care for a child. She said at first it is really awkward because their is a generation diversion. Obviously a 35 year old is going to have trouble fitting in with 20 year olds. As time went on however she started collaborating with her peers and they learned alot from eachother. People will very respectful of her that she decided to go back.

I'm 28 and I'm back in school too.  It can be awkward sometimes, but you get over it.  It can be disconcerting to listen to some of the kids and realize that you used to be just as "innocent."   Focus on your schoolwork and not on your classmates.  Your age gives you the wisdom to know that you have to put the effort in to make good grades.  Keep at it!  It's worth it!

don't feel bad i felt out of place at 25 just starting college. I've met people who were in the late forties and early fifties who were either just starting or decided to continue their studies. It'll get better don't worry yourself. ; P

When I was in college there was always usually at least 2, if not more, students that were in their 30s or later in just about every class.  Congrats on going back!
