  1. Since your already low on iron, I'm assuming your already under a doctors care for this, you should talk to him about any diet changes. He may want you to take an iron supplement.

search through them, i found them really helpful

    good luck [:

  3. there are lots of good sources of iron, fresh vegetables, lentils, beans, chocolate, avocados all are good unusual sources, so a stir fry followed by a chocolate mousse will be on the menu!

You can use a mineral and iron supplement or you can get iron tablets from yor pharmacy, I use them when I give blood, it does make your poo black and very heavy tho..... !

  4. Just eat 3 raw red beets a day or  1 and a half glasses beet juice and that beats the amount of iron you'd get from supplements.  If you eat plenty of dark greens and plenty of orange veggies  then you don't have to eat anything else to get  the iron you need!  You need fruit for the enzymes that help digest your food!   Tomatos and Watermelons are considered fruits.. they bear seeds!   For B12  try Kelp, Alfalfa, Mushrooms!

  5. 500 mg

  6. I applaud your stance. Good for you. Animal cruelty is disgusting, and all animals bred for food live a miserable life.

All nutrients can be obtained from a good vegetarian diet. Eat plenty of spinach and broccoli for iron. Have a look at the book Iron Rich Recipes/Overcoming Anaemia by Tarla Dalal.

  7. I suggest that you buy a caste iron skillet. You don't drink soda, coffee or tea, do you? Caffeine inhibits iron absorption.

Unless you have had your blood tested, it is not appropriate to say that our iron is low whenever you don't feel great as it could be B12 deficiency or many other things.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentil, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

  8. Take a spoon of molasses once a day. The iron level will pick up in a matter of days.

Make sure you get plenty of vitamin C, because it aids in iron absorption.

The article here shows your iron intake should be about 18 mg.

If you are using an iron pills, be very careful not to take too much, it's not good for you. More is not necessarily better.

  9. Im not sure how many you need a day, but I know dark green leafy veggies will give you tons of iron. So will dried fruits. Im pregnant and developed anemia, so I switched from eating lettuce to spinach. Like instead of lettuce of sandwiches, I would put spinach and if I ordered a salad I would request spinach instead.
