Im being sued please help i have questions?

im being sued by smud her in california for a accident i got into 2 years ago when i hit the smud pole and it fell. long story short there suing me for 3700 i told them i could make 50 a month payments because i really have no money and have alot of bills.i dont have a car or nothing. they said no they want 150 a month now there suing me. what should i do and how much trouble am i going to get into with the judge

the statute of limitations is usually 2 years and so should have run on this.  at any rate, turn it into your insurance company and see what they say.  then go with the lawyer's answer, they can't get blood out of a turnip! good luck

From a lawyer.  If you do nothing and never show up, etc. all that can happen is that they get a judgment against you for the amount and court costs.  Then they have to try to collect it from you through garnishment of wages or attachment of property.  However, if you have none of this, nothing happens to you.  There are no fines or jail for people who have no money.  One of these days you will have money and when that day comes you can call them up and negotiate a settlement for pennies on the dollar and get them to remove the judgment and take it off your credit report.  It's not so bad.

They probably will lose their case, because they should have contacted your insurance 2 years ago.

jail time will make up for the money if not i hear some judges will make u do community service but if u already have the judgement there is no plea bargain now.

The judge will likely add court fees to the amount you owe them and with a judgement the people could have your wages garnished at whatever rate is allowed by law. The judgement could also affect your credit score.
