Im born and raised american.. want to travel to chile?

for 2 mo.'s er so with my boyfriend from there. do i need a passport and visa.. is a visa neccisary? and if i get married to him can i go there w/o it?

An American pays $100 or $110 for a visa at the airport when they arrive.  It depends on how much the US charges Chieans for their visas.  It is valid for however long your passport is valid for.

You don't need a visa when you arrive by land, for some strange reason though.  I took the bus from mendoza, Argentina and didn't need a visa

This is how it works. As an American citizen, you do not need a visa to come to Chile for a stay up to 90 days. What you will get is a tourist card that you pay $100 for, called a reciprocity fee. It is valid for unlimited entries into Chile for the life of your passport. One you renew your passport, you will have to pay the fee again if you come back to Chile.

If you plan to stay here longer for 90 days, you have a couple of options. One is to leave the country before the 90 days is up and reenter. The common way most "gringos" do that here is to go to Mendoza, Argentina for a day or two and then return to Chile which will give you another 90 days on your tourist card. It's a cheap bus ride to Mendoza and back.

The other option, if you know in advance that you plan to stay here longer than 90 days, is to go to the Chilean embassy nearest to you and apply for a visa. If you are married to a Chilean citizen you can apply for a visa based on that.

So, if you plan to stay here only 2 months, then you have nothing to worry about, you will just pay the $100 fee when you go through customs at the airport and that is all you will need. you need visa no matter how many days or months you are going to stay visa. if you'll marry him and apply for spousal visa, be ready to wait for it for a long period as this type of visa has the longest waiting period.

im not quite sure but i think you need a visa if your going to stay there for 3 months or more.my family is from there, and i went there for 4 months one time and they told me i needed a visa.

while your there you have to go to vina del mar and valparaiso, thats where most of my family is and i love it there. i miss it so much!
