  1. This is the horse racing section. There is a Pets>Horse section that might get you more/better responses.

  2. use neatsfoot oil and massage it into the boot (all over) before wearing, then spend a day walking around everywhere in your boots - especially up and down stairs and hills.  Don't forget to ride in them as well.  They might still be tight and stiff before the show, but if you continue this process for a few days after the show as well, your boots will break in and feel like second skin - super comfortable.

With the neatsfoot - a little goes a long way, so be careful.  Also, when you polish your boots for the show, use a leather cleaner to clean and soften the leather and massage in the polish.  This helps to keep the leather supple.

For getting your boots on and off, spray showsheen or baby oil along your legs, especially around your ankles.  This helps prevent muscle cramps and will help mold the boot to your leg, as well as making them super easy to pull off at the end of your ride.

Hope this helps and good luck at the show!

  3. Oil them with neatsfoot or a leather conditioner, and either put them out in the sun, or warm the conditioner first. The warm will make it penetrate really fast.

Another thing to do at the same time is pretty much sit there and mangle your boots. Bend the ankles, twist, crush, etc (no, really, I'm serious). The leather is stiff because it's not broken in, and working them will break them in faster. Never heard of the rubbing alcohol, but baby powder inside, or there's products called Boot Stretch and Boot Slide that work REALLY well  (Most tack shops have it).

Don't forget the tops of the boots, because while the ankles will actually break in fairly fast, the tops are much stiffer, reinforced leather and will take longer to break in. And the back of your knee being bruised by a boot top is no fun at all. Good Luck!!
