  1. You're probably fine.  A little bit of caffeine (such as the amount found in a chocolate milkshake) will probably not affect your baby.  Most babies aren't affected by even a daily cup of coffee.

If your baby does seem to be adversely affected by it, of course, don't drink any more, at least until your baby is older.  But, I would go ahead and have a milkshake :-)

  2. Are you drinking milk?  If milk in your diet is not making her fussy, a milkshake should be fine.  If you are worried about the caffeine, don't have a chocolate shake, have vanilla or strawberry, although the amount of caffeine in a chocolate shake would be very small.  Most foods in moderation don't usually bother breastfed babies, just don't overdo it.  Sometimes trial and error is the only way to find out.

  3. Unless your baby has a milk protein allergy having a milkshake isn't going to do anything.

You could eat nothing but sugar all day and it wouldn't effect the sugar level of your milk.

Is there a list of foods that I should avoid while breastfeeding?

There are NO foods that a mother should avoid simply because she is breastfeeding. It is generally recommended that you eat whatever you like, whenever you like, in the amounts that you like and continue to do this unless you notice an obvious reaction in your baby to a particular food. There is no such thing as a "LIST OF FOODS THAT BREASTFEEDING MOTHERS SHOULD NOT EAT" because most nursing moms can eat anything they want, and because the babies who are sensitive to certain foods are each unique - what bothers one may not bother another. If you have a family history of allergies, you might want to avoid certain foods (for example, peanuts or dairy), but again, this would be different for every child.

All nursing moms appear to have the same proportions of protein, fat and carbohydrate in their milk. Lactose, or milk sugar, is the main carbohydrate in milk. It appears to be the least variable of these three macronutrients (Nutrition During Lactation, 1991). There is little evidence to show that it is affected by your diet, even if M&Ms make up a large part of it. Even when a mother's diet is far from ideal, her milk will still be the best feeding choice for her baby. Certain vitamins are affected by maternal diet such as Vitamin B6, B12, and C, though the amounts of these vitamins will plateau when they reach a certain level. The calorie count of breastmilk ranges from about 18 to 25 calories an ounce

  4. A milkshake will not keep your baby up at night unless it upsets her stomach..if you are drinking milk and she fine with that...a milkshake will be ok too....I have been breastfeeding for 9 months now and I drink 2 cans of Pepsi a day and my baby sleeps through the night and has since she was around 2 months old...well she sleeps from around 9pm until 4am and then nurses and goes back to sleep until around 7-8am...

  5. A milkshake will be fine to have  :)

  6. choose a caffeine-free milkshake and see how your darling baby reacts.

Every mother and breastfed baby combination is different - so a bit of trial and error will tell you if it will keep your little one awake, or make no difference at all.
