  1. A  Searay, Sundancer is a nice boat.  This is a lot of boat for a novice. They say a boat is a "hole in the water that you keep throwing money into".  This is very true, but, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of boating.  You sound like you can afford it.  But, I caution you not to start out with such a large boat to begin with.  You need to know how to operate a boat first.  There is a lot to learn about it.  It takes time and money to do this.  Start by going out  with someone, with experience in boating, on smaller boats, rent one if you have to, or go out with a friend.  Try operating the boat, try docking it, try handling it in tight situations, and in wind and rain and fast tide running conditions.  Start small and work your way up to a good sized vessel.  One you can handle and one that is right for the waterways in your area to suit your needs.  Happy Boating.

  2. searay sundancer is an excellent boat. but for someone with no experience i suggest you find a friend 0r someone who has a knowledge of boats to guide you. dangerous to operate for a novice.. a boat is completly different than a car. very expensive to own and operat e. $10.000. per year would not be excessive everything included. you need a great deal more help before you buy any boat.

  3. SeaRay Sundancers are fairly nice boats and you could do a lot worse in your choice.  However, have you looked into the possibility of buying a used one that's a few years old?  You could save yourself a lot of money. All boats, new or used, require maintenance and upkeep so saying that you don't want this hassle doesn't "hold any water".   If you're uncertain what to look for in a used boat, you can do your looking around and once you've picked out a boat, have a marine surveyor go over it to see if there's anything really wrong.  You'll save yourself some potential headaches and will more than likely need a survey for insurance purposes anyway.

A 240 is a bit of a larger boat for a first boater but at least you're in the ballpark as far as size goes.  I've seen first time boaters go out and buy a 40 foot cruiser. That's like driving a small house... without brakes.  I do recommend that you find a qualified person to help you learn how to operate the boat.  Also, for your own safety and that of others, you should take a boating course to learn the rules of the road.

Just so you don't go out of your mind, there really is a manufacturer called SunRay and I believe that it is the "lower end" of the SeaRay brand.

  4. If youre ready to fork over $50,000 for a 240 sundancer and obviously never having owned a boat, i would suggest your mother take away your check book. First of all its searay not sunray, and the contras fought the sandinistas. not to be critical. do yourself a favor and buy a smaller used boat with a good maintenance record. find out if you want the expense and time of boating, and see if you enjoy it.

  5. take Carl's advice.

  6. $50k is a very good price for a new SeaRay

However  25 feet of  boat is a lot to handle your first time out.

Please remember this particular boat weighs about 7000 pounds when loaded with people, gear, gasoline, food and drink, etc.

That's 2-1/2 tons with NO BRAKES.

for your own sake and the safety of others, do as I did start off a little smaller.

    I started with a 1970  Fabuglas 17ft  Tri-hull with a 75hp Johnson.

Now 5 boats and 30 years later, I"m trading up to a 37ft Larson or a 38ft Regal

Larson, Glastron,Four Winns and many other have VERY nice Cruisers and Cuddies in the 19- 22ft range

    Just  something to think about
