Tell them your name and then ask for the hiring manager tell him/her that you were calling to check if anyone had gotten a chance to look at your application.Be nice and even when you are on the phone smile. No matter what they say thank them for their time and  it can't hurt to let them know that would really enjoy working with them and that you hope to get an interview.
