  1. what are you thinking dont get a wild one go to a pet store if you get a wild one you will crush its spirt and it my comit suicide and also it is crule

  2. Not intimidated by what you say!

    I agree with Gwen L

Pigeons carry disease and you CAN"T bring them to the vet! Vets don't have a license to care for wild animals. They won't be tame at all and they will probably die of a heart attack or shock! It will be trying to escape every second of its miserable life from you because its WILD. Go to a pet store and buy one, they aren't expensive and they are tame and would be MUCH better pets. You could probably get one for free in a newspaper add!

Any ways what if the pigeon has a family and is feeding chicks? You will be killing the babys then too!

  3. peigons eat what or corn i had peigons once on my roof

  4. Why don't you just buy a pigeon? I see ads in the paper for people selling pigeons--even giving them away for free--all the time. That way you won't be confining a wild bird that craves freedom, and you'll have a better chance of getting a healthy bird that doesn't have a load of diseases/parasites. I hate to say it, but it is true; wild birds can't go to a veterinarian if they get sick, so they tend to have a lot more health problems than pet birds.

  5. You shouldn't keep a pigeon in captivity unless it's injured or it will be very unhappy. It might have a family or a mate somewhere. If it's at your home, you might try feeding it some seeds or bread and maybe it will stay around of it's own free will but, be careful, it might bring some friends along.

  6. in the city pigeons are like rats with wings .... they'll eat anything.

  7. Pidgins carry diseases and it's better to not touch one but if you are determined too, I am not sure what kind of bait to use but if you can find one that is injured, you should be able to walk right up to it and pick it up, the bird usually won't struggle if it is injured. I have done it before and than brought it to a wildlife sanctuary.

  8. really? what are you going to do with it ,after you catch it? won't it biteyou? does it want to be your pet? maybe it won't like a cage. why don't you look online and see if there are any pigeon rescue groups you can get one from, instead?

  9. i would buy one at a pet store since the wild ones will be of an unkown age and so on

  10. that is really mean to try and catch a pigeion. not only are you taking it from its environment, but it is going to be way from its family and friends. buy one out of the paper from a breeder, or go to the spca, my spca always has doves there.

I also think it is against the law to capture wildlife, as in you can get reported for doing it

  11. I got my first pigeon as an almost grown baby that fell from its nest under a bridge. I kept that bird almost 12 years.  It was a lot of fun.  If you catch an adult, it will be almost assuredly be very very wild and fly against the wires, etc., of whatever you're keeping it in.

If you tell us what state or province you're in, I may be able to refer you to someone more local who raises pigeons and will be able to help you get some domestic ones.

If you have your heart set on the wild one then almost any grain will work.

BTW - if you go to http://www.pigeons.biz and check out their Forum called Pigeon Talk, you will find a lot of pigeons that are being given away because they need someone to care for them (some of them are tame ferals, some domestics but there are some good folks there.)

  12. bird killer dont cage birds let them free cruel people

  13. catching it- Well my friend used traps that wouldn't startle them or hurt them. She put a bowl of fries under a box that laid on a rake that stood up slanted on it. The rake was tied to a string. She held the string and waited in a dark unnoticable place. She caught a bunny and two birds using this.

feeding- these aren't 'normal' birds but they survive with bugs, some human food (not too greasy) fruits veggies, and healthy natural plantation.

caring- a cage that is a bit roomy is good. Don't keep the latch open though, they are freedom birds and like eagles, when opportunity knocks, they are out the door. don't give it seeds because my friend gave a pigeon seed and it went crazy.

    Hope I helped! ;D

  14. why would you want to catch a wild bird? the stress alone would probably kill it. it may also have a mate that you would be ruining.! why don't you look into bird rescue to see if you could adopt one that was raised in captivity.

  15. My husband hates it when I do this but I love sitting outside of walmart and throwing any kind of food and getting swarmed in pigeons. They get so close you could kick em...but don't do that. Lol if you do catch one be sure to take it to the vet asap. Pigeons carry more diseases than any other bird...they are really discusting for being so pretty. So, for your safety handle them as little as possible til you get to a vet.

  16. Don't people usually feed them bread on the streets? Or try bird food?

    Good luck buddy.
