  1. Is the laptop hooked up to the printer? And is the software (or driver) installed on the laptop?

  2. Hi!  I remember being computer challenged!!  :-)

Yes, if you have a printer, get the CD that came with it and install the printer and hook up the printer.

Then just use File --> Print from the program you want to print from.

Installing the printer should be easy because when you put the CD in, it should pop up a box on the monitor and then it's as easy as following the instructions.

If you don't know what the right decision is, go with the suggestions in the instructions - that normally works fine.

If you don't have a printer, yes, put the file on a disk of some kind.  What type you use depends on what you can use on your computer and what you can use on the computer you are going to print from.

Memory sticks are okay on most computers these days - libraries, online centres and internet cafés normally allow memory sticks to be used.

Only thing to be careful of is that the computer you print from has the same program that you are using on your own computer and that the version is the same or a later one than the one on your computer.  Otherwise, the computer might not be able to make sense of your file to send the information to the printer.

If the disk you are going to use to take your file with you for printing is a floppy disk, put the floppy disk in your computer.

Find the file and right click on it.

A list pops up and one option is 'Send To' and if you highlight that with your mouse, another list pops up and one choice is "3 1/2 Floppy (A)" - move to highlight that and left click.

The file will be copied to the floppy disk.

Wait until the light has gone out on your floppy disk drive and you can take the disk out and off you go.  Always let the light go out before you take out a floppy disk.

DON'T let the floppy get near a mobile phone or anything else that might have a magnet or speaker in it - it will damage your disk.  This goes for new floppy disks too; you can ruin them before you use them if they are kept near a mobile phone.

If you are using a memory stick, first double-click on My Computer to open it and note what disk letters you can see.  I'd expect you to have C: and D: at least.

Next, push the memory stick into a USB port (if it's a USB memory stick and if not, into a slot designed for your memory stick) and the computer should say it has found new hardware and get it ready for you to use.

Look back into My Computer and you will see another disk, possibly E: but it should be one letter later than the last one you had - that's your memory stick.

Find the file you want, right-click on it and choose Copy and then open the memory stick folder by double-clicking on its' drive letter.

Right click on a blank spot and choose Paste.  This should put a copy of the file on your memory stick.

If you are using a version of Windows earlier than 2000, you will need to get a 'driver' for your memory stick and install that first before putting the memory stick in.  A driver is just a small program that tells your computer how to use the memory stick.  Search in Yahoo or Google for the name of your stick and the version of Windows or if you get lost, post a new question here with the details of your memory stick and the version of Windows you are using and ask someone to help find a link to the right driver for you.

Another choice if you are comfortable with email and will have access to the email from where you intend to print, is to send the file to yourself as an attachment to an email.  Then you log into your email account at the printing computer and get the file and print it.

    All the best!  :-)

  3. idiot. just print it.

  4. If a cd came with your printer install that on your computer. But if nothing came with your computer look on the manufacturers website for the software.
