Im confused. If Rafa wins Stuttgart next week he must gain some points ?!?

I know he`s defending champion there, but he must gain points from winning that tournament just the same as if he lost it he would lose points ? Thanks

ATP So, African rating system is complex, and screwy. Nadal is a defending Stuttgart champion of 2007. In order to keep his point this year he has to win. Yes, there's  monetary rewards, but he will not accrue more points
