Im confused about paypal?

Question

i kind of have an idea on what it does but imma little confused....if i dont have and an accont can i still get a paypal....is there anyway i can just put money on it and use it? also does it cost money to have? and u can also explain how it works to give me a clear understanding of the whole idea....thanks

I have been using PayPal for YEARS and let me make this very clear to all the folks that have incorrectly answered this question.   You do NOT have to have a checking account linked to your PayPal account to send or receive money.  That is simply not correct.

You can opt to add/link one of your credit cards instead which I think is the better route to go.  If my PayPal balance is not sufficient to pay a seller  (on eBay for example), it charges whatever is left to my linked credit card.  Even if I don't have any money in my PayPal account, I can still use my linked credit card to pay the whole amount via PayPal.

Personally, I hate debit cards and checking accounts that pull money directly out of my account.  You can always dispute a credit card charge but once the money is gone from your checking account, it is gone.  Good luck getting it back from your bank.

You need to set up an account if you want to use it.  Paypal helps you pay online.  It is also used when you sell things online.  For instance... If I sell something on Ebay, and the buyer pays me, the money goes into my Paypal account.  I can leave the money there to use when I purchase something online, or I can transfer the money to my bank account.  If you go to the Paypal site, it will explain it all for you.

In a nutshell to pay someone who has paypal you do not need an account. To start using paypal for yourself such as Ebay or a merchant account, you need to sign up and also have a checking account. It does not cost anything to join. However, with that said, if you sell anything and someone gives you money paypal will take a small % of that sale. Please see their fee schedule for current rates. I believe right now it's like around the 1-2% mark of the total sale. If you want to add money to your paypal account, you just click on the add funds tab and you can sepcify how much money you want transfered from your checking to your paypal. Paypal does not take any fees if you add money from your accounts. They only take that % from a sale. Depending upon how long you have your paypal account you can also apply for a check card. I have one and I love it.

To use PayPal you have to have a source of income from the money to come from ie. credit card or bank acct.

It doesn't cost anything to use PayPal or set it up. Totally free & Safe!

you have a have a bank account because paypal is basically an extention of your banking account. When you want to use paypal to buy something online, you have to first click on the "transfer funds" button, which takes the amount of money you need out of your bank account and puts it in to paypal. Transfering funds in this matter is free (paypal doesn['t charge you for it).

If you receive money on paypal, like if you sell something on ebay, paypal charges you like 3% or so of the transfer.
