  1. yeah thats exactly what happened, see we took a huge firecracker and shot up into space and it exploded, thats what the big bang is

  2. the big bang theory is about how some people think  the universe was created i dont belive in it but that is wat that is and there are millons of other planets

  3. There is a theory that is based on a hypothesis:  That the universe began in an extreme state of energy density (a.k.a. temperature) and it has been expanding (and cooling) ever since.

The hypothesis was thought up after it was noted (by the astronomer called Hubble) that galaxies appeared to move away from each other in general, in a way where the speed of recession was linked to the distance (twice as far = twice as fast).

Lemaitre came up with the Primordial Atom Hypothesis: he calculated that if you went back in time, all the galaxies would have tried to be in the same spot.  Therefore the universe could have begun as a very dense assemblage of matter.

Since then, we have applied our understanding from various branches of science (physics, chemistry...) to the concept and have come up with a model of how such a universe (hot and dense at the beginning) would expand and cause all the things that we can observe.

The name "Big Bang" was given by an adversary to the theory:  he wanted to make fun of it and to cause confusion -- the words evoke an explosion (everyone knew that an explosion was impossible).

A theory is only a tool.  It is either useful or not.  So far, the Big Bang theory is the most useful in explaining what we see when we look at the universe.

At the time the theory was being constructed, the other theory (called Steady State, defended by Fred Hoyle, probably the best astrophysicist of the time) was the most popular.  Among other things, it was much easier to use (this makes it more useful).

It is only with bigger and better telescopes that astronomers began to see things that did not fit the Steady State model, but where explained (even predicted) by the Big Bang theory.

    ---

There are three types of people questioning the Big Bang theory.

    1. Scientists looking for an even better model to explain the universe (however, they know that what is already observed must be explained by whatever new theory they create).

So far, they have succeeded in making the Big Bang theory better by correcting some minor things that were not quite right. (and yes, there are still problems to solve)

    2. Atheists.

This was in fact the first driving force against the Big Bang theory and in favor of the Steady State theory (Fred Hoyle was proud to be an atheist).

The Primordial Atom Hypothesis had been created by a priest and, for many scientists, looked like a way to give God a role in the creation of the universe.  As far as they were concerned, the Steady State theory, with its eternal universe, was much better because (among other things) the universe having no beginning, did not need a creator.

    3.  Anti-evolutionist.

People who have decided to believe (against all the evidence) that Darwin's theory of Evolution (a theory that is completely independent of Big Bang) cannot be correct.

At the time this theory was formulated, evolution was already known and accepted by scientists (including Christian scientists working for the Churches).

What Darwin did is provide a theory, a model, that showed that it was possible for evolution to proceed on its own (without a guiding hand from Above), and that Man could be the result of an evolutionary process.  This would mean that Man was not created directly by God and this may remove our "natural" role as owners of the entire ecosystem.

There are people who refuse to accept the possibility that we were not created directly by God.  As far as they are concerned, they know better than God, how God created us.

The label "creationists" is often attached to these people, and they attach the label "evolutionists" to those who believe in the Big Bang, because they think that the theory of Evolution is linked to the Big Bang theory in some way.

There objective in questioning the Big Bang theory, is to question the age of the universe and, indirectly, the age of our planet.

If evolution did indeed proceed the way it is described by Darwin's model, then it needed time.  Lots of time.

So, if you can show that Big Bang is false, then that raises the hopes that Earth may be too young for evolution to proceed according to Darwin's theory.

Unfortunately for this group of people, the only other viable theories of the universe still leave a very old universe, with a planet that is at least 4.5 billion years old  (still young, compared to the almost 14 billion years old universe as determined under Big Bang).

Some of the arguments raised by these people is the "fact" that the Bible says the Earth is only 6000 years old (the Bible does not say that).  This is based on work done by James Ussher, way back in 1650.  He had placed creation (based on his interpretation of Genesis) in 4004 BC.

The rest of the Church(es) already knew that the world was much older than that, so they ignored his results.

However, James being a bit paranoid and anti-papist (he had it made well known in 1626 that he thought that "The religion of the papists is superstitious and idolatrous; their faith and doctrine erroneous and heretical") decided to take this as a good omen.

In his mind,  the fact that the rest of the Christian Church disagreed with his calculations, was as a sign that he must have been right.

    He was wrong.

    ---

In any event, there is a lot of evidence that Earth is old enough.  This evidence has nothing to do with the Big Bang.  Don't worry:  the anti-evolution people are questioning all of it, not just Big Bang.

  4. the earth revolves around the sun as do the other 9 planets human are a speck of  life thats all we are

  5. What the h**l??? Take an astronomy class. That will straighten you out!

  6. Whoa, yes you are confused...

  7. The big bang is a stupid theory. God  created everything that is here now will ever be and ever was.   I am questioning everything because I  strictly believe that the bible is  was and will always be right.   I believe my theory and I will preach it until I die.
