Im confused how "Green" Nuclear Energy is?

Some have told me it lets off Carbon emissions, however some say its green. Some say its creation lets off hundreds to millions of carbon, however if the vechiles doing it was green? And if the mining for the uranium/plutonium done via a green machine then wouldn't the whole process of creation and energy creation be green?

Thanks.

  1. I believe you are asking about life cycle carbon emissions from nuclear as opposed to anything else. They are very low compared to fossil fuels.

  2. the generation 4 reactors will be burning much cleaner as a matter of fact they will be burning so hot that they can seperate hydrogen from steam. They have done it at the lab level, but they need to find a way to mass collect from the reactor its self. This makes the potential for them to more green.

Also nuclear waste is recyclable. However it is limited. The dumping issues in the past were mostly due to shut down process.

  3. How "Green" is the sun?

It is nothing more than a big Hydrogen fusion reactor!

OUR main problem is what to do with the 'leftovers' from our little 'local' reactors.

  4. The biggest effect of nuclear power is the waste.  There is no "good" way to dispose of the extremely toxic radioactive material.  The "best" disposal method so far is burying in a mountain, locking it up and throwing away the key. I'm sure this does not answer your question, but it is something to consider for the discussion.
