  1. Both are some what. A Conure is a social bird. But all birds are different, just like all people are different. You must judge for yourself the right way to handle your bird based on what he wants, not what you want. You should never force your bird to do something, if you do then you are headed for a bite...

    1. Sit back and watch the bird (take as long as need or as short of time as needed) See that he is eating and make notes on what he is eating. You continue to do this until he seem relaxed.

    2. By now you should know what it's favorite food is (example: Shelled Peanut halfs). Take all of this food away from him, Never, Never give him this food again. Unless it is from your hand only, directly from you.

    3. Care Peanuts with you always. Everytime you see him pop a peanut in his mouth, He will very quickly learn that you are a good thing and become very relaxed around you.

    4. when he is relaxed around you (this could take days or hours) start to see if he wants to come out, (for a big reward of lots of peanuts).

Now you are almost there. Never punish your bird, they have a long memory, and like you they will remeber the bad things that happen more then the good...

Get a book on Targget training, and enjoy your bird..

  2. You should pay attention to what an EXPERT says not people. They usually say their opinion.

  3. Just try this. When you first bring him home leave him in his new cage for about three hours. Then mix up a good healthy bird meal, like steamed vegies. Then make a fist and put your arm in the cage saying step up. If he does not step up, put your other arm behind him and start bringing your arms closer and closer together. He will have to step up on one of your arms. Take a few bites of a vegie yourself and offer him some to. He may or may not eat it right off the bat. Wait for 4 (no longer than 6) hours and repeat the process. Talk to him softly all the time. At night dont leave food in his cage. It attracts moths, bugs and causes fat birds who nibble constantly. First thing in the morning repeat the above process. He should be hungry enough to try a few bites. By morning number 3 or 4 he should just jump on your arm and be very happy to see you. Might even mutter a few words that you may or may not understand. When he does speak, praise him greatly. Overdoe it so to speak on praise so hes rewarded in a positive way for saying something. Jo
