  1. I would suggest bathing the eye with some water but make sure you boil it first to kill the germs.  Let it cool down so it is room temperature, and then gently squeeze the water over the hamster's eye.  Do this a few times a day until the eye heals. I wouldn't use human eye drops because the drugs in them might be too strong.  If it doen't get better though you will have to try and go to the vet.

Also is the cage near a draught as draughts can cause this.  So don't have the cage near an open window.

Also where is the cage?  Is it near the kitchen so are there smoke fumes coming from cooking near the cage or is someone spraying air freshener/insect killers around near the cage?  All of those things could irritate hamster's eyes.

Most likely thing has already been said though - a bit of dust in his eye.

  2. You might want to put human eye drops in his eye. He probably hit is eye. Im sorry to say, but it is probably very important that you bring him to the vet. If you can't, then follow my instructions.

    - Put eye drops in his eyes, maybe once or twice a day.

    - Try not to play with him to much

    - If it is possible try covering his eye.

  3. Old hamsters are prone to  a condition called "sticky eyes" where the eyelids are fused together. This is often because a hamster may have something it its eye such as a piece of dust or it could be because the hamster's cage is placed in a draught or could be a symptom of a cold or allergy. The closed eye should be wiped with a small piece of cotton wool soaked in luke warm water. This is usually sufficient to open the eye but if not the eyelids can very gently be pulled apart.

If a hamster has recurring problems with runny or sticky eyes or the eye appears cloudy the hamster could have an eye infection. This can be treated by mixing half a cup of sterile (boiled and cooled) water with a teaspoon of boric acid powder (available from a chemist or pharmacy) and using an eye dropper to bathe the eye twice or three times a day. If the hamster does not show improvement within a couple of days veterinary advice should be sought as antibiotics may be required.

  4. he may have just gotten an eye irritant from dust or something in the house. try holding a warm wet (clean!) cloth over his eye until he can open it. if the problem persists or worsens you need to see a vet-- he could have an infection that needs antibiotics. it would not be more than $100.

  5. Don't cry!:'( he should get better if you clean it out all you really need is to rinse it out there's prob just something in it. Don't feel bad my hamster got a really bad disease, wet tail.

  6. Theres always the alternative.

New hamsters are like ten bucks. Just a suggestion.
