  1. having "spots lights" instead of one ceiling light is very popular in bathrooms

    (and bedrooms too)

geta aset of four fitted (depending on how big your bathroom is)

this is the kinda thing i mean :

  2. every one has different tastes on decor, you could always cove the ceiling, with ready made coving, from your local builders yard.It will never go out of date, my job is a plasterer.

  3. what about crown molding....you try watching the home make-overs on....hgtv or on tlc

  4. I`ve used a upvc cladding that`s suitable for walls and ceilings.Comes in all kinds of designs, not cold to the touch,so cuts right down on condensation, and looks great.Just go to Wall/ceiling cladding on google, you`ll probably find a local stockist. It`s well worth trying to see the stuff in a showroom,it`s quite impressive. The brand I bought comes in packs of 4,each piece is 25 cms wide X 2.4M long. They fit together tongue and groove style, and one pack will do floor to ceiling one metre wide. The great thing is that you can put them straight over old tiles or any flat surface just using silicone sealant. Each pack costs about £25 ,and you can do an average size bathroom in a day.Hope this is of help.

  5. If you're going for minimalist/modern then put in recessed lighting and replaster the ceiling. It sounds like you may have to hire someone. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/19/garden...  http://www.servantremodeling.com/full/11...

  6. HGTV.com has everything.

  7. Check out this site - basically a membrane you strech across your ceiling, much easier than plastering, and quite funky. There may be diy versions but this shows what the possibilities are.

If that doesn't do it for you, I did my ceiling with 3mm plywood (you could use mdf) I only needed two sheets and cut them out - oil primed, filled and sanded them on the floor before putting them up (much easier than after). I glued the meeting edges to a wide batten and cut downlighters in - filled the joint with Alabastine (cellulose filler) and painted. You really wouldn't know it wan't plaster.
