It simply means you should round off each number to three digits, or numbers that will give meaning to the accuracy of the actual number. Numbers can be rounded to 1 , 2 , 3, 4 , or 5  significant figures;3 figures is most common used. check the website below.

Significant figures means digits that are not zero - unless the zero is between two non-zero numbers, or at the end of a decimal.

34,000 has two SD

34,050 has 4 SD

0.0003 has only 1 SD

0.030 has 2 SD
