  1. watch WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR

    its a documentary

or watch some Al Gore speeches online

  2. Well for a start, the less energy we use for one thing, the more we have for other things. Less gas for driving could me more energy for food production etc. Not to mention the effects on the environment. I don't know if it helps, but I just clicked around these:

  3. Here's the big problem - people don't WANT cars that are more fuel efficient.  The problem is not with the car makers, the problem is with government policy.  Americans don't care about efficiency because the price of gasoline has been kept low by government policy.  Other countries such as England, France, Germany and Japan made national policies that encouraged people to use mass transit or buy cars that got good gas mileage.  They did it by placing high taxes on the price of gasoline.  It is not the responsibility of car manufacturers to provide efficient cars.  It is their responsibility to build what Americans will buy.  Their responsibility is to their stockholders.

  4. The simple physics of the problem comes down to the fact that it takes a certain amount of energy to move a certain mass a certain distance. The more mass, the more energy required, as with the more distance the more energy.

The trend has been to make cars lighter and more fuel efficient by using more plastic and aluminum. This would imply that the use of petroleum is going down. It is only as much as per individual vehicle.

What has happened, is that the rising population has offset the national reduction and has amounted to an overall increase.

Add to that, the desire to have a larger home in the country, or at least in the suburbs, has added to the distance equation.

Southern California is a perfect example of how not to conserve gasoline. the distances for commuters has increased and with the lack of a desire to improve the public transportation system, has resulted in a considerable area that is used for roads.

Cars can only be as efficient as natural laws will allow. You can say that there can be a vehicle that can get 100 miles per gallon, but the fact is that without some form of augmentation, it will never happen.

By augmentation, I refer to the possibility of having some form of energy recovery system such as electric generation while braking and coasting. There are vehicles in the experimental phase with that technology as well as ones that kill the engine at stops.

It's going to be a long time before the world economy reduces it's need for petroleum. Consider the uses of plastic in everyday life. You have either oil or natural gas that can be used as a raw material. Oil shales and sands are not nearly as productive as wells, and the resulting pollution from the processing can be prohibitive.

To have a hydrogen fueled vehicle that is practical is the goal of many manufacturers It can be done but will require building more electrical generation facilities. Coal fired plants will add more pollution, and the area required for inefficient forms of generation such as wind, and solar farms to meet the need can be prohibitive. The only way I can see to meet this problem is to do what France has done and convert some of the coal fired facilities plus construct new facilities to nuclear power.

  5. Do some research on how many cars are on the road, their average carbon output, and research how better fuel economy will benefit.

There are more and more cars on the road every day. This number will only contiune to grow, so the overall amount of carbon put into the air can only grow as well.

  6. Check out my site, There are a lot of great tips on fuel efficiency and fuel alternatives!

  7. You need to include facts like.

If you got 60 mpg vs 30 mpg then you have created only half the pollution to go the same distance.

You've used only half of the oil so if everyone used half the needed oil then the price of oil would go down.

If the oil price went down the cost to manufacture and deliver goods would go down.  This would be good for economy.

If price of oil goes down then maybe the need for ethanol would go down and the destruction of the rain forest in the amazon would slow down.
