  1. It helps keep trash out of the landfills. It keeps trees from being cut down. It keeps oil from being pumped. It keeps the oceans from being polluted. It's a darn good idea.

  2. Recycling provides more efficient use of resources than if things were used once and then thrown away. Australia has just seen a major marketing campaign to convince them that they need to recycle more of their aluminium cans.

Im not sure if they have a website but a google search easily found this statistic:

"Recycling saves energy. Recycling 40 aluminum beverage cans has the energy-saving equivalent of one gallon of gasoline. During 2004, Americans recycled enough aluminum cans to conserve the energy equivalent of over 15 million barrels of oil."

  3. Recycling is an age old concept in India. We have an entire society and economy which is based on the recycling industry. And this is not a recent development. This has been going for centuries. Recycling contributes a lot to the society. Indian society has degraded with the increasing western influence of 'use and throw' mentality. We are going the wrong way, only to turn back where we were many years before -  a society where the concept of waste does not exist.

Hindus revere cows, and abstain from eating beef for the simple reason that a cow is a very good recycling plant for all the green waste generated in a house, such as vegetable discards, rice, etc. and in return gives milk and cow dung. Even today ppl collect cowdung for many reasons, for their flooring, keeps away ants and insects, for their fields: is a good manure, for fuel; burns well when dry.

This is but a simple example. there many more. but i am sure now u can see the importance of recycling on a society. Recycling contributes to the continued sustenance of a society by nature. It will maintain the elemental cycle which will keep on giving returns as long it is being complete.

Besides, a society that does not respect and value the resources provided to it, will soon deplete it and die out.

Unfortunately, the Indians are losing it. already we can see the effects. once clean and pristine rivers, lakes, mountains countrysides are not lying waste, littered with piling garbage and waste. Like the developed countries which our ppl so foolishly try to emulate, we are where america and europe were 20 yrs ago. like them we will need to wake up. we need to rediscover ourselves.

the good thing is recycling of paper, plastic etc still continues. No Indian will throw out anything unless its completely useless, torn, etc. At least the majority of them. Also recycling generates a lot of employment for those below the poverty line. Although a hazardous job, these are like the microbes of the human civilisation, aiding in recycling the matter thru the system. Every society needs these, no society can consist of only the weel off. In such a case, the system breaks down.

  4. recycling can teach us, as a society to be respectful of the land we live in.  We can not keep piling stuff up. recycling can also benefit society by preserving natural resources.

Recycling contributes to future societies.  Keeping our planet cleaner - will benefit those who come after us to live on this earth.

  5. Hi,

This video is awesome. It will help you. Make sure you watch all of it.. kinda long.. 20 min or so.. but very informational!

  6. you must be a young person to ask this.  plastics, that were made of petroleum that was once organic, made from rotted trees, are not organic anymore  and never break down.  they destroy the environment if thrown in the ocean and a seal eats these or a six pack can holder gets wrapped around an animals neck.  failure to recycle causes waste that is not broken down and that is incompatible with various life forms.

  7. Landfills are limited spaces. Most things takes hundreds and thousands of years to disintegrate. We may be shipping our garbage to other planets if we don't get a handle on it.

  8. Currently recycling is done mostly by major corporations.  One Wal-Mart can recycle thousands of pounds of cardboard, Nucor can recycle millions of tone of steel a month.  The family unit produces only a small fraction of waste.
