  1. In addition to the above, you can get the Portsmouth-Bilbao ferry.  Seems a bit pointless to get the ferry to France, when you could get the ferry straight to Spain...

  2. go onto aa website and type it in , it will then tell you.

  3. for idiot proof travel: fly.

If you must drive, i would get a GPS.  We found it to be quite useful driving in a foreign country.  It was scary without.

  4. Use the AA website to work out a route for you!

  5. that's a great drive try the AA route they will do it for you and have a brill time take care have a look at this?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bournemouth... you can take your car and fly quick way or sail to Alicante and drive to Murcia lots of ways but the AA will give you door to door by car good luck

  6. I found Google Maps - get directions very helpful, they give step by step directions.  Also a sat-nav    GPS   may be helpful. I found with google maps together with the gps (£107 off Ebay) helped me drive through from UK to Morocco - no Moroccan maps available tho  lol.

Hope this helps you, bon voyage.

  7. Use http://www.yahoomaps.com

  8. Invest in TOMTOM UK and Europe.

It will tell you turn by turn, reroute you if you make a mistake or diversion.

Sell it on when you get home, if you no longer need it.

  9. Whilst it may be more expensive I would always go via Portsmouth or Plymouth directly to Spain and not drive through France at all. Good luck, I´ve done the other journey thro France both ways and it´s a long way!!!

    In advance.......welcome to Spain!!!

  10. I've actually gone from Murcia to Kent and back to Murcia in a white van!

We did it without a map and the only place we got lost in was Paris although we worked it out in the end.

Basically, you need to get the Dover to Calais car ferry.

From Calais, drive towards Paris. Make sure you don't get lost in the ring road.

You need to drive towards Lyon. Aim for Paris Charles de Gaulle and then it should be signposted from there.

From Lyon, aim for Perpignan which is on the Spanish border, just North of Barcelona.

(Ignore any advice that brings your route through Andorra. You get traffic problems extraordinaire there).

From Perpingnan you literally follow the AP7- E15. This goes straight down the whole of Spain and leads you into Murcia without needing to divert at all. It is the same motorway all the way down until you see signs to Murcia.

What I did is to take the evening ferry. From Calais I drove to Paris and stayed the night.

We had breakfast in Paris very early and got to Lyon in time for lunch.

We then got to Tarragona in time for dinner and spent the night there.

We were in Murcia by the following afternoon.

This way it is a relaxed drive and you get to have fun too.

I would definitely recommend negotiating for room prices if you stay in Paris.

They can't sell the room to anyone else by the time you get there but most hotel receptionists are surly and won't give you a discount unless you ask very very sweetly.

Also, take plenty of cash with you because the French toll roads are a right royal rip-off. You can be paying up to 35€ to get through a toll!

I hope this has helped and that you have a great drive.

  11. From Kent get the ferry to calais, then calais, rouen, la mans, tours, poitiers, bordeaux, bayonne, irun, pamplona, zaragoza, albacete then murcia. have a good trip.
