I am looking after a friends pool/house, and its level was down, it was about a foot (30cm) from the very top, and needed about 15cm(half a foot) of water to increase the water level to half way up the filter box (apparently thats the proper level) - anway I put the hose in on a quater turn (about 1 litre each 20secs) and the pool is 3m by 7m (approx 9foot by 21foot) - I put the hose in this AM, and am planning to turn it off tomorrow pm (about 30-35hrs of filling time) - will it overflow!?!

Please advice as many ppl as possible who know, cos the friend's pool is an hour away from where I live, and dont want to go back unless if I really need to!

thanks in advance

  1. I have to agree with answer 1, and I'm surprised your friend didn't ask someone more local.

I won't bother trying to do the math, but certainly the possibility exists. I think after considering a two hour round trip, I might have turned the hose on full, REMAINED at the house, let the water level at least be sufficient to not run the pump dry through the skimmer, then turned off the water when a desired level was reached.

No real offense to you or your friend, but I think it was modestly inconsiderate to expect you to be the pool custodian, given the circumstances.

    Just my two "sense"

  2. You should go there immediately.  That is way too long.  Yes, the pool can overflow.  Where do you think the water is going to go.  Anytime you are filling a project like that someone should always be there.

Another question is your friend's house on city water or well?  If they are on city your friend is going to have a nice bill from the utility department.  Any time you are filling a pool you should alert the water company so you won't get billed an astronomical price.

  3. It's really a bad idea to leave the water running when no-one is around.
