  1. 9mil is light. But i think it would be ok for a first gun.

I assume your getting it from a store. Glocks usually come with a lockable case and a trigger lock. Make sure you get it.

    And a cleaning kit.

  2. 9mm is the most common caliber ammo out their readily available and relativily cheap compared to bigger bore ammo.  While it is considered light its all about shot placement . .a 9mm to the head will still kill someone as well as a .45 caliber to the head.  If ur gon get a 9mm glock they come in full size glock 17, compact glock 19 and sub compatc glock 26 (i believe).  full size gun is easier for some to hold and grip.  the compact is also pretty good sized is slightly smaller than teh glock 19 but not so that its unbieleavbly hard to control.  THe sub compat a baby glock is pretty small 2 finger grip for somepoeple its hard to control but if you learn how to grip a handgun properly you would be able to shoot most caliber handguns with pretty good control.  9mm ammo for the range u can get some cheap winchester white box for target practice.  Its cheap and good for target practice but for defense ammo u should look into some   9mm Federal LE Tactical HST 124gr. HP Ammo a lot of people use it.

  3. A permit to purchase is a moot point, he may not live in a state where a permit to purchase exists.  A good first gun would be a revolver, like a Smith and Wesson in .22 rimfire, its inexpensive to shoot, accurate, dependable.

  4. Are you using it as a law enforcement gun? If so, I would go with a .40 cal glock over the 9mm because it has more stopping power.

  5. I don't think a Glock would be a good first gun.

To answer your question I would invest in magazines, cleaning kit, and ammo. I know there are a lot of the 10 round magazines still floating around so make sure not to get tricked into buying any. 9mm is a good starter caliber so good luck and ALWAYS practice firearm safety even with the gun unloaded.

  6. Ammo...

  7. i have a full size 9 mm, it is the glock 17.  if you buy it from the local gun store, you will normally get the gun (complete) with three mags, speed loader, gun cleaning brush, the case, warranty papers and a cable lock with keys. All you really should need to buy is either a gun case (small) and / or a holster. i have both, just to be on the safe side. also you will need to buy gun oil and something to clean it with.

  8. First thing to purchase would be the "Permit to Purchase" from the local sheriff's department.
