  1. You or your employer within 6 months of your arrival will have to visit the Immigration office and apply for an FM3 card. You will get a tourist visa on the plane good for 6 months.

The application is straight forward - fill it out. You will have to copy ALL pages ( even blank ) of your passport. Copy of your tourist visa ( don't lose !). Letter from employer stating he cant find a Mexican to do this work. Both you and you employer will need to copy some bills ( electric , water ) to show proof of residency. Employer who sponsers you has to photocopy his I.D. Employer also has to furnish a copy of his buisness license and maybe some other things I forgot but thats a good deal of whats required.

Fm3 card is d**n near impossible to get but maybe being a speciallised field in the hotelzone is worth it to the employer.

You may want him to go to Immigration now and get the info and make sure he has no problems with all of this. You may want to go get the forms before you " move " , say a weeks vacation , and hand deliver to him and double check he's O.K with the requirement's.

Last thing you need is a surprise from him because he idnt realise all the things nessecary for your legal employment.

If after 6 months you dont have an FM3 and your 6 month tourist visa expires and you have to leave - you have to pay some fees for every day you stayed past the six months and it may not be pretty. Never lose your tourist card they have you fill out on the plane and you recieve as they will collect it upon your departure - you cannot even board the plane back home without it so dont try.

Good luck as this is a major deal and make sure the employer fully understands what he has to do to fulfill the requirements of the immigration laws !

  2. You will need the FM3 visa with work permit BEFORE you can work one MINUTE for your employer.  The employer should ...in fact MUST sponsor the work visa and will need to do that immediately upon your arrival.  You can go on a tourist card...which you will get on the plane, but then must apply for the FM3 with work permit  ( there are a zillion types of FM3s)  immediately.  See site below.
