Im from the US, is moving to the dominican republic a good idea, why or why not? can i even live there or...?

i would go if i were you. how many people can say, "hey i lived in the domincan republic for 3 months" you know? you get one life so live it. i lived in spain and i loved it so much. but you can be there for 3 months...you will have to find out if you can get a resident visa to stay longer

I've been to the Dominican Republic and I like it. The beaches are beautiful, the people are friendly, the weather is warm and tropical, and like many other Latin Americans, Dominicans love music and dancing and partying!

Are you a single guy? If you are a "Norteamericano" you will have no trouble finding a girlfriend! Even if you are muy feo (ugly). Dominican girls love guys from the US! You might have several girlfriends! If you are g*y, you will have no trouble getting a boyfriend, as well! A good looking one!

Now, the bad news. The DR is a "Third World" country and you will see a lot of poverty. Unemployed guys will hang aroung you, try to be your friend, anything for a free lunch or a little cash. In some streets and clubs aggressive prostitutes will cling to you. Lots of crime in the cities like Santo Domingo. Lots of filth and stray dogs and cats. They have a lot of electrical power failures - suddenly the TV, A/C, the lamp will go off for a few hours. Then it will come back on, only to go off again a while later. You've been warned!

If you have a lot of money and can live in an elegant part of town with your own swimming pool; life will be fine. If you have only a little money you will be miserable.
